There is plenty of history between LSU-A&M, so no problem there. I agree that is a more natural rival than Arkansas, which has just never caught on, even with the recent history.

We've played A&M more than several teams in the SEC, including Arkansas.

Close, but not more than Arky. Played the Aggies 50 times and the Hogs 56 times.

Surprisingly, Missouri and Arkansas have only played 5 times despite proximity.

on the cancelling series, Aggies will say LSU chickened out once it became a home and home series and we started giving them an 0-1 start every year and they still owe us $ from that deal.

I took it as that we have played the Aggies more often than we have played several current SEC teams.

That's right. We've recently surpassed it since the A&M series was cancelled. I think we've played them more than we've played Auburn.

FWIW-I think Auburn/LSU is a rivalry game. Look at the two fan bases, how these games have transpired over the last 20 years, etc. The only thing missing is a deep history because we rarely played Auburn until the SEC was reorganized. I would hate to lose this game if Auburn moves to the East.

also I believe the story also goes that if they backed out there was a clause in the contract that they could just provide us with a suitable replacement team and LSU said we could put ULaLa in their place

despite what the aggies will try to say their rival will always be texas. they are the little brother to texas, they can't escape that by running away from them and trying to replace them with another big brother (LSU).

trust me, this fan knows what it feels like to be considered the little brother....lmao

Yes, A&M dominated us when we were in our worse era of football ever and A&M was in one of their best ever. Good for you.

And, good guess, but no.

It's no secret that everybody in the country was beating lsu during those years. What happened to the results of the first 5 games of the 10 game contract?

Until I came to TD and learned of the hatred for Bama, I thought y'all hated Auburn more. Cigar stuff and all. That's the problem with a Bama/LSU rivalry, for me any way. I live in North Alabama on the Tenn border. I never see you folks except in T-Town.

they went 5-5 in a 10 game series in the darkest days of the LSU football program!

For A&M to really have a rivalry with LSU... A&M has to become a threat to LSU

6-4. Of course no doubt it would have only been a 5 game series had LSU started off on the bad end.

with nick in bama, it has become a heated rivalry. Say no more than what is the most anticipated game of the college football season. Auburn was much more of a rivalry when tubby was there with his cigar smoking arse...but I think people can grow to hate chiz. Face it, rivalries develop when two teams play each other every year, and the outcome of the game usually has significant ramifications. If one of the teams starts losing, some of the luster is gone. A rivalry is best when both teams are at their best and winning big. That is why it's hard for arkansas to become a big lsu rivalry. they have never won anything, and LSU is never playing them for the West title. If arky can start achieving national success, it will intensify.
