OU has the tradition, history, prestige, and a national following.

Schools like Texas A&M know how the pecking order would turn into if OU joined the SEC. They can't even beat LSU and Bama. Add OU to the mix and they'll be even more mediocre than they were in the Big 12.

I can think of only one program in the SEC that's more storied than OU and that's Bama.

And for the TV market gurus, how about them Oklahoma City Thunder?

Congratulations on not being as shitty as Little Rock or Albuquerque. I'm sure they're just dying of jealousy about your one small market professional sports franchise.

I have evidently been exposed to a different breed of OU fans. The ones I've had conversations with were actually pretty decent and openly admitted they were envious of the SEC and would love to join us.

That said, all but one of them were openly "flirting" with an oddly heavily anchored amount of Gamecock fans...and this was about the time they saw that they were more than likely going to be facing the taters in the playoffs. Asked us to use the #BoomerSooner tag on twitter as a favor to them bc they said they were aware of how much Carolina and clem despised each other.

All of that to say that after reading thru the entire thread, we were obviously being actively hoodwinked by a fanbase that was whoring themselves out for support from the most obvious fanbase that might give it to them based on their (at the time) probable opponent in the first round of the playoffs. That we happened to be an SEC team was just an added bonus to them.

He's just posturing. Oklahoma and OSU and Texas are an inseparable 3. It's why they aren't in the SEC already.

Isn't that what they said about Texas and A&M?

Whatever happens, I have confidence Boren will screw it up again and once again be called out for crying wolf.

I would have loved to have Oklahoma over Mizzou, but expanding to an even larger conference isn't appealing at all to me.

Boren acknowledged that turning down the SEC in 2011 was a massive mistake, and he plainly stated that the Longhorn Network needed to be turned into a Big 12 Network, the Big 12 must expand, and they need a conference championship. He then goes on to state that if these issues are not addressed Oklahoma will look elsewhere.

Could you link the article you are talking about? The one you linked doesn't say anything about turning down the SEC in 2011 being a mistake or OU planning to "look elsewhere".

The funny thing is that Dr. Loftin, TAMU President at the time, did everything he could to get OU to come with us in 2011. When he failed, and it was clear that no east team was coming, Missouri took the last spot by default.

Fast forward. The SECN receives a higher revenue per subscriber in each state in the footprint. Are there even enough potential subscribers in the state of Oklahoma to cover their cut of the SECN and maintain the current payout? THAT, will be the driver of any future expansion for any league.

While OU has the history, tradition, and titles, they don't have the metrics. And that is why the PAC turned them down and why the B1G will as well. The ship has sailed for them in the SEC as well. OU will have to wait until their GoR expires to see how it all shakes down. My guess is that tu, Tech, OU, and OSU all eventually wind up in the PAC. While the B1G, SEC, and ACC all remain as is.

I will say that in the 15 years we were in the XII, I never had any bad experiences with any OU fans. Most that I encountered are good folks and understood as much as anyone that programs can be up and down. Granted, TAMU had very little history with OU prior to the formation of the XII, except a few home and home games scattered since they left the SWC in the 1920's.

Probably easier to be "storied" when OU got most of those wins in a conference of lightweights and Nebraska. Sooners did lose to Kentucky after all to break one of their winning streaks and they are a basketball school.

As for other storied SEC programs, I am thinking Kentucky's 8 NCAA titles > Oklahoma's 7 MNC's.

Kinda agree, but as I think about it, I realize we are mostly only exposed to the rural Eastern Oklahoma t-shirt fans. The big towns that line the Arkansas border from Fort Smith up to Bentonville serve as magnets for East Oklahoma assorted native and marginally white-trash seeking unskilled jobs.

We get the bandwagoner, loud mouth, Coors Light, uncouth and unwashed floating over the border here.

Maybe I'm alone but I have the opinion that at some point money takes a back seat to winning. The SEC is already a gauntlet. OU is a solid football program and adding them would only make things tougher. The extra few million a year wouldn't be worth it.

At some point, you have to realize this isn't Xbox and a college team can't just have an NFL-type schedule. Its funny when people go "Hell yeah! Let's add OU, Texas, Florida State, and Clemson!" Might as well add the Saints and the Falcons while we're at it.

This is true. The better method to expand is NC and VA not OK. Far more revenue to be made in the east than some dust bowl town in OK.

Schools like A&M know that the state of Oklahoma is a shitty TV market and would add nothing to the conference.

I definitely wouldn't mind OU and OSU joining the SEC.

Them and TCU are about the only ones I can stand in that conference.

I have some relatives that lived in OK for a long time. My cousin married a sooner and she is the most sour faced bitch I've ever seen, literally looks like she just sucked lemons every time you see her.
