Deal probably blown up by some self-important power play by the ‘horns.

I hate Texas but being honest about this......the Big 12 wants Ou/Texas to stay another year in hoping TCU,kst,etc...can beat them a couple more times before they leave. They need the remaining teams to give the perception that they're "programs" like OU is which they just aren't.

Sorta like how A&M screwed everyone by leaking the move and scuttling the CFP expansion talks at the time that ended up costing the SEC 10s of millions in revenue so far… I am doubting that any of this is coming from the teams and it’s all from the networks trying to rile up the fan based.

I am guessing this leak is Fox trying to get Texas and OU to budge on doing some type of scheduling agreement with the B12 to allow increased inventory as those teams are balking at the terms…

OU/tx are not happy with B12 and its no small thing. The conf has seemed to go oit of way to screw them at every chance including reffing is 1 sided since announcement of leaving. Heck, OU defensive opponents had 1 holding call all season long, that is impossible to do. Then the schedule is trash. They have us playing 3 of 4 new teams with 2 on road. They also took away 3 normal conf games vs regulars. And OU has no games in stste of tx except RRR, which is unheard of.

The B12 needs our cash and wants a big payout. They are poors and the 4 new teams are not getting full shares and the staying 8 teams have to give some of their shares up to support the newbies. OU/tx did not give up any shares so are whole.

The problem B12 has is by keepimg OU/tx another year means if they could get some Pac teams to join in 24, the current teams (minus OU/tx) would have to split shares for that year so give up even more money oer team and they can’t afford that. If we were gone they have way more money to entice Pac teams. Right now Pac is trying to work on a TV deal but its stalled. So the B12 is going hard after some teams but by leeping OU/tx that hurts their ability to get them to join due to splitting shares while OU/tx are there. The B12 is trying to get cash from us to help out. And we have no reason to to be blackmailed.

One thing the TV and conf were trying to do was get OU/tx to promise to play B12 teams at the B12 home stadium (after we are in SEC) to make up for letting us out early. In addition to money. Its a no go.

We hold more cards than they do and the closer it gets there is no reason to pay their blackmail and home games after leaving. I don’t mind playing them but if you have no say on when its not smart. B12 has to hope the remaining Pac teams don’t make another deal before we leave. Keeping us ties their hands and its a gamble as those Pac teams want a TV deal to show viability. If they make a TV deal first then the B12 will lose out getting them long term. Its in B12 interest to let us go early so I think its not over yet.

Maybe they see the benefit of a 16-team Big12 and decide to stay put.

They did the same thing to A&M, Mizzou, Nebraska and Colorado when they announced they were leaving. The difference being BlowU and Donghorn announced it THREE YEARS EARLY!. Not really sure what you expected.

After A&M and Mizzou left, y'all made it extremely expensive for anyone else to leave. Kinda shot yourselves in the foot on that decision.

I can't tell you how excited I am to have more teams in the conference for no reason other than it was something that sports media could talk about and get ratings so all the stupid fans jumped onboard which gave the commissioners the opportunity to try to make it happen as a money grab.

But, I'm not bitter.

I agree that CFB needs a strong Big12 and agree that we should stay, but I sure don’t want to at this point.

Imagine having a dying conference dictate terms to you ... either soft or poor, probably both.

How quickly people forget the past and construct a narrative to suit their own viewpoints...

The only person to 'announce it" was A&M through one of their local media mouthpieces in a blatant attempt to scuttle it. All it has really done instead is to screw up the CFP negotiations at the time and looks to have drug this out for Texas and OU, so maybe that is a win in A&M's book. The problem is that that "win" cost everyone in the SEC conservatively so 10s of Millions of $$ and more importantly impacted the structure of how representation for the CFP was going to be in place..

Also there was a new update saying fox and ESPN can still make a deal for this to happen it just didn’t happen when the big 12 board was in session. So there is still a small chance something comes of this because the big 12 and both school have already negotiated a payout …. It’s on the networks now to figure it out .

Some tweets:

——

Ross Dellenger

@RossDellenger
More details emerging from the FOX & ESPN negotiations, which included an offered broadcasting rights "trade" of Texas' future games involving Ohio State/Michigan. The trade was denied.

That said, multiple sources claim the discussions are "not dead."

——

Douglas Miles

@douglasmilesCRG
Despite claims from opposing fan bases that the #Big12 departure is held up because Oklahoma - one of the few self-sustaining athletics departments nationally - is “broke,” the holdup is compensating FOX for the eight games it stands to lose involving the #Sooners or #Longhorns.

You really are about as ignorant as they come. Y'all held a press conference to announce it as Jimbo was giving his speech at the SEC Media Days and Jimbo had no idea it was happening. All of A&M's people were at SEC Media Days.

The original story came from that dipshite with the Houston Chronicle. He is no friend of A&M.

My guess would be that someone with the donghorns or Chokelahoma just could not keep their mouths shut. Y'all thought that you were going to be able to work something out with the Big 12. Then the Big 12 said FU, you can leave when the GOR is up. They have been sticking it to you ever since. They still have 2 more seasons to f*** with you.

Wouldn’t OU and Texas want to stay another year and play with the JV opponents?
