When the economy is shitty, there is less likely of a chance that someone let's you out of a contract. And if they do, the cost is ridiculous.

Kind of makes sense.

Why would they pay extra money to start receiving regular arse beatings 1 year early?

Good. Hopefully the arrangement falls through before the deadline.
I think college football needs a strong Big 12 which includes Texas and OU.

considering their return trip to athens was scheduled for 2031, no this does not change anything.

Good, should give them even more time to reconsider.

Sounds like the real culprit in this is Fox. They don't want to lose Michigan @ Texas in 2024 on top of the Big 12's top draw of Texas/OU and have pretty much made it impossible to provide a set of rights trade that ESPN could ever agree too.

It is almost like a divorce with 2 combative parents that hate each other and will never really agree on anything regarding shared rights and so the kids are waiting till they turn 18 to bail to go live with their father.

It is hilarious that the Big12 is going to make them ride it out until 2025

I don't think it is really the big 12 at this point as much as Fox. It sounds like the Big 12 realized how much of a disaster scheduling was this year and wants to get back to a functional rotation without Texas and OU. Its not Texas or OU paying money but Fox wanting the big draw inventory and more importantly making sure that that inventory doesn't get on ESPN.

The other issue is that it drags out any form of attempts to peel off some of the Pac-12 schools (which the B12 wants but most likely Fox is leery of).

You must not deal with contracts regularly.
