What do OU's national championships last century have to do with Brent Venables' coaching acumen?

No the mobilhoma methlords have been wildly inconsistent.

2022 - Gabriel got hurt
2023 - fricking Gabriel
2024 - Nelson fricking laugh should have kept Gabriel
2025 - Mateer to save them instead becomes the first team in NCAA history to lose a home playoff game

If Mateer stays healthy their schedule is pretty favorable outside of the UGA & Texas games. They get Ole Miss and Aggy at home and we all know those Gaylords will trigger aggy's PTSTD in Norman.

8-4 is the floor with 10-2 probably the ceiling....

I think alot of people were drinking the kool-aid when they handled Michigan at home early in the year and he looked good. Turns out Michigan wasnt very good.

Michigan had 3 regular season losses last year to OU, USC, and Ohio St. Most teams would take that. They did get blown out by texas in the bowl game after the coaching change and all their players opted out.

Michigan was short 3 players in the bowl game. Texas lost 20 players to opt outs and transfers.

Michigan 2025 = Oklahoma 2021

i think Whittingham is an excellent HC, but the Wolverines will struggle in year 1 under him

You are ignoring the thumb injury and subsequent surgery for Mateer.

There is no telling how much that threw him off his game. Maybe none at all... maybe a lot.

We should find out this season as they say his thumb is fine.

I agree, i think if he cuts down on the interceptions this year he will be a top sec QB. He can definitely sling it.

plenty of program pedigree - HC's kryptonite was the green dot put on back of the QBs helmet in 2024 across all of CFB -

if OU is gonna be a serious contender in the SEC and beyond - it'll have to do better than 98 YPG and 3 YPC in league play running the ball - their top 2 RB each under 450 yards on the ground last season - both return -

OU offense scored 30+ points once in league play last season - beat UTK 33-27 and put up a season high in league play 192 rush yards doing so -

OU won 2 SEC games last year scoring just 17 points in each win -

This is true. I think they addressed this but the proof is on the field. Brought in some new RBs. Hired Jason Whitten as TE coach who by BV said he is the hardest working new coach he’s ever seen. We had practically zero TE room help last year and brought in some good TE’s. That will help the run game. Brought in a RB coach who coached up some great RBs at 2 different schools. OlIne experienced this year. Brought in some WRs to help support that part too.

They addressed every weakness on offense in off season. But you are 100% correct, our season will depend on if we vastly improved run game. On paper we should be better but until we lace up its all speculation.

Thanks OU Guy. You covered all the key points.

Every off season problem was addressed, and I think we're a ten win team. Texas will be tough as will Georgia. If we can split those two games, we're definitely a playoff team. Might be without the split, but I'll be happy with ten wins considering the schedule.

We should have the best defense in the league.

Referencing the “rollercoaster” shows lack of understanding of the situation.

What else do you call it when you have a winning season then a losing season then a winning season then a losing season lol

But not thinking of BV is an odd statement at this stage

Nothing screams its not. He has been a head coach and had a losing season for half of the time. He also the first OU coach to have two losing seasons since the early 90s. He couldnt even win a home playoff game

best defense in all of CFB

No one doubts his defensive abilities but the jury is not out on him as a HC. Sorry that offends you

If they can find an offense? Look out. If not, meh, top middle of the pack.

Again, you show you lack any understanding of the situation.

The first 6-7 year was with a gutted team. Idk about you, but pre-NIL, the standard was to let the new coach acclimate 2-3 years, with year 1 in many cases being a mulligan.

The second 6-7 year, was year 1 in the SEC, a totally decimated OL, an absent WR room, and a QB room with no experience (the incumbent left that off season) running for their lives, because again, they had no offensive line (all injured) and no wide receiver room (all injured).

Last year was year 4, which is typically right when you want to see a coach get their guys in. I’d say 10-3 with that schedule proved pretty definitively the jury is most definitely not “out” on whether BV can coach in this league. He did just that.

And “can’t even win a home playoff game”? That’s a weird rebuke…what playoff games did Tennessee play last year? Better yet, what did Tennessee do at the horseshoe the year prior? Sec fans still can’t shake that one off when big 10 people puff out their chests talking about their conference.

That's funny. Nobody cares whats going on with Mizzery. So no need for a telegraph, just a carrier Pidgeon, which gets mistaken for a dove on it's way out of Mizzery and shot by Okie, Arky, Tenner and Kentucky hunters.
