Opening Weekend Takeaways for your team

There really is nothing as a LSU fan you can hang your hat on from this weekend. We played Purdue Fort Wayne. Clearly LSU is one of the most talented teams in the country. Our pitchers looked really good against severely overmatched hitters. Tells you nothing about how they will fare when conference play begins. Same with the hitters. Can’t tell defensively because the pitchers struck so many batter out. Very high on this team, but nothing that happened this past weekend changes anything for me.

One more I left off. The color guy mentioned the spin on Isaac Morton's slider over 3000. And not just once.

Here is a list of the avg highest spin sliders in MLB last year
1. Lucas Sims - 2997
2. Corbin Burnes - 2982
3. Austin Adams - 2967
4. Bryan Abreu - 2914
5. Joe Kelly - 2871

4 guys over 2900, none over 3000.

I think we may have found a serious bullpen weapon. Just gotta throw enough strikes to make it work.

We have one of those too. William Schmidt throws with a 98 mph fastball and a slider with 3000 spin rate.

Schmidt has a fastball ranging from 93-98 mph with an 84 mph change and an 83-85 mph curve with a 3000+ spin rate

Also ten pitchers throwing 95 mph or better. Weak competition this week but only gave up two walks the whole weekend.

Missouri need to learn the lesson that OU learned a while back...

Don't mess with those small warm weather schools early in the season.

Get yourself some frozen arse northern small school (like Lehigh) and play those type teams early.

The upgrade at coaching during the off-season is definitely showing

We looked good but the competition was weak

Bad competition

Yeah, manhattan pitching certainly paved the way for some gaudy offensive numbers, but I thought they were actually pretty solid in the field and our guys were able to hit around them.

Obviously the big question mark for us is pitching, I liked seeing a bunch of freshmen come in and handle business. I still don’t know if the pico, ligon, Simmons rotation will be enough to make serious noise in conference but they took care of business against bad competition.

Are we allowed to say that when it is against Purdue Fort Wayne?

That is true.

I know that our Starter was rolling in the mid 90's for the first 3 innings against texas. After a time through the order, the mid 90's fb that was moving all over the place the first 3 innings was not hard to barrel up that second time.

I would say it would be curious to see how the directional school does against other elite arms, but they don't play anybody else this year for the most part.

Dallas Baptist mid week and Nebraska will be the only real competition you will see until conference play.

TK2 brought some serious confidence and fun to the park. Love his energy. Keeping him on the bench when we get healthy will be hard.

With a swing like this, he isn't going to the bench anytime soon..

Damn.. that's a MLB all-star level swing..

Absolutely. No way Texas would have boat-raced Ole Miss and Ok State without Schloss. We are on our way back.

Probably the most indicative of how our season will go. I have 0 faith in Bianco or his staff anymore.
