It would be so funny if he ends up on one of the g5 schools on Tennessee's schedule.

Tulane backed out. I’m hoping it’s a JUCO that doesn’t even offer him a scholarship

Agreed. But at the time we signed him, his market value was 2.4 million. Hindsight is 2020.

Also, Nico was earning this money in a state with no income tax.

If he signs with UCLA, he’s going to see a change in that.

Knoxville and $2.4 million don't look so bad now.

I wouldn’t go that far…

I dont think people realize how broke UCLA is when it comes to their athletic department, they were in the financial shitter before California decreed they had to pay Cal $10m a year for leaving them for the B1G. If Nico signs with UCLA its going to be for a fraction of what the Vols were paying him, and UCLA is already paying former OSU QB Devin Brown

This retard cost himself $1.5m and will have to play for some shite school instead of a team that just made the playoffs

FAFO

I just saw this article about LaNorris Sellers's $3.7 M for this season. That is probably why Nico wanted $4M for this season.

IIRC Sellers' actual NIL deal is for $2.7m, which puts him in the same group as Mateer and Mendoza, which is where he should be

Nico is not as good as any of those guys

I appreciate the Vol's and their willingness to go against the grain yet again amidst the chaos that has engulfed the sport. Way to pioneer the new age of college athletics. Someone had to step up and call BS...and tons of positive publicity for doing so.

I don’t know if it’s been mentioned in this thread but I saw a video from yesterday from Tony Basilio the Knoxville talk show host discussing these matters. The short version:

1. Nico’s father is literally nuttier than a fruitcake, he’s a control freak and a bully who dominates his sons’ lives and Nico clams up into “Yes boss” mode when his dad’s around.

2. Tennessee isn’t making any stand on principle against NIL, they’re talking to other quarterbacks right now and are quite willing to spend $4 million to get one. They’re making a stand against crazy because they had zero idea they’d gotten involved with crazy.

Take that as you will.
