Lane has established a good program at Ole Miss but he also was provided by Ole Miss the full support he needed to do so. Two-way street.
Ole Miss has potential plans of action they may have to take as well so it is more than reasonable if they tell Kiffin “we hope you stay but we do need to know something by XX date so that we can proceed forward accordingly.”

I like Kiffin a lot but people are treating this guy like he’s Saban with multiple titles under his belt already.

Another blue blood would hire him easily in the future. He could go to the pros a few years and then come back and coach whomever needed a coach.

He is an employee getting ready to frick over his employer. The company is doing the right thing. You can’t just let him walk all over you and have no downside.
OM could be in bad situation with all their portal warriors. They haven’t exactly been recruiting well, so they may have some tough seasons ahead if he leaves. That is the other downside of this new era we are in. A coach can leave, take his players, and the old school is left holding the bag.
Take what Buzz did last year. He was all in with a senior laden team. He knew he wouldn’t be around the following year and took what he wanted when he left. That could happen at Ole Miss. Complete rebuild.

For the record I think what Kiffin is doing is shitty. But there is no universe in which OM will fire Kiffin just before CFP.
If Kiffin leaves it will be on his terms and only when he is ready to leave. Take it to the bank.
