Should be noted that Oklahoma State had their women's basketball coach die in plane crash the day before the Iowa State game. Easy to see why they might not have been as focused on that game.

They jumped out to a 24-7 lead though

Honestly the better statement and argument should be Oklahoma State/Alabama.

LSU made it through the regular season undefeated.

How in the frick do you say LSU was overrated??? They beat every team on their schedule including bama at home. lucky or not. I WISH we had played Okie State, but i think the entire country knew Okie State was not the 2nd best team in the country. The rematch, while not something i wanted, was the correct matchup, if you want the 2 best teams in the Nation Championship. Saying LSU was overrated, is idiotic.

Note he did not say that about Alabama, we would have annihilated those bastards and Gundy knew it.

LSU and Alabama would’ve beat them by at least two touchdowns.

This.

OK state might have had their best team ever but both Bama or LSU that year would have destroyed them. A&M, Kansas State and Stanford all almost beat them and Iowa State did.

LSU didn't play a competitive game all season except Alabama 1st game.

Alabama didn't play a competitive game all season except LSU 1st game.

LSU and Bama had a ridiculous amount of NFL talent on each roster and had elite defenses. OK State paled in comparison on NFL talent and gave up 28+ in more than half their games.

Disagree or not, that is what I love about the 4 team playoff... sometimes those 3rd or 4th seeds are the best team in the country. The year Ohio State won it was fun to watch a team prove everyone wrong. The first year Clemson made it was the same deal - most people thought we didn’t belong.

Iowa St would have been a team with a losing record if not for their win over Ok St.

And people who use the death of others as an excuse for a football lose are pathetic. Oklahoma St was winning that game 24-7 early in the 3rd quarter and Iowa St shut them out the rest of the game. OkSt wouldn't score again until OT.

If they struggled against Iowa St, what the hell does he think LSU would have done?

And playing in man is something you do because you have the players to do it. None of the Big12 defenses could play man against them? What a fricking shocker.

So as usual Mike Gundy is full of shite. It would have been an easy win for LSU and everyone knew it.

He's right about one thing- OSU would've made a 4 team playoff.

"Load the box, man to man" is mostly what LSU ran....but not what they'd run against OSU. 4 man front, man under, 2 safeties. OSU would've had a very difficult time contending with the talent LSU had on D.

LSU run game shortens the game, limits touches, you've all seen it before.....

I thought this would be a laugh at Oklahoma State thread, but people are actually agreeing.

If you don't think LSU would blow out Okie lite then you have no idea how much talent that LSU team had

In 2011, Oklahoma State would have been the 5th or 6th best team in the SEC behind:

1) Alabama
2) LSU
3) Arkansas
4) South Carolina

and maybe

5) Georgia

Uh, no. Oklahoma State was a bottom 10 rush defense in 2011. Miles wouldn't have had to call a single pass play. In fact, why Shaw had Luck throw a single pass when Stanford was averaging 9 yards per carry still puzzles me.

So, you agree with Gundy? OK St would have waxed LSU? I kind of agree...LSU was extremely overrated by the end of the season. Alabama should have never lost to yall in T town. Lucky tigahs.

Also why would losing to LSU once already mean a damn thing? Is that in the rule book anywhere? Or just something you guys like to make up? Florida played FSU again in a rematch and got revenge. They were crowned champions regardless.

Despite Oklahoma State' strength of schedule being superior to Alabama's, and OSU finishing ahead of Alabama in the computer polls (both that compiled 1/2 of the BCS formula that year), the result was the slimmest margin ever between two teams in the final BCS Standings. Alabama had an average score of .9419 whereas Oklahoma State had an average score of .9333.

Why ?????????????

Because the AGREED-UPON BCS FORMULA WAS IGNORED. due to the fact that several head football coaches used their vote in the Coaches Poll to diminish OSU's position by voting them No. 4 or lower; among those to do so were, Alabama head coach Nick Saban, former Big 12, head coach of Missouri Gary Pinkel, Air Force head coach Troy Calhoun, and Stanford head coach David Shaw.

If I were an ala-shamea Gumpneck Thing fan, I would be extremely phucking embarrassed that my 3rd place SEC team was given a berth in the BCSNCG, WITH the BCS Rules TOTALLY IGNORED.

My question - Why even PLAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY the SEC Championship Game that year ??????????????????????

Yeah the offense that year was pretty vanilla.

Yep

For whatever reason, we did have one of the best redzone offenses in the country that year.
