quote:

"We would have played LSU and won," Gundy said in a lengthy interview with ESPN's Chris Low. "They were an overload-the-box, man-to-man team on defense, and you could not play our team in man that year. We were too good. That still bothers me, that we didn't get a shot. And if the system was set up like it is now, we would have been in the playoff. I guess those things don't drive me as much. I love for our kids to have success, don't get me wrong. But I don't dwell on it like I used to."

He also says in the interview Tennessee approached him three times in the last 10 years, with 2017 being as close as he ever came to leaving Oklahoma State.

They lost to Iowa State, but they had not ALREADY lost to LSU.

LSU blew the doors off of everyone on the schedule .

Notable wins over Pac 12 Champ Oregon who was a powerhouse at the time, A geno Smith led WVU, The eventual national champ in their own house.. #3 Arkansas.

And I mean blew their doors off.

LSU was built for pass happy teams like okie lite. The running game alone would have put up 38 points.

I want what hes smoking.

Theres a reason we were so pissed Bama got back in. Oklahoma State would have been dropped so hard their grandmothers felt it.

LSU would’ve dropped 40 on Ok State easily

The shutout wasn’t a result of bad LSU offense, but good Bama defense

So, you agree with Gundy? OK St would have waxed LSU? I kind of agree...LSU was extremely overrated by the end of the season. Alabama should have never lost to yall in T town. Lucky tigahs.

Also why would losing to LSU once already mean a damn thing? Is that in the rule book anywhere? Or just something you guys like to make up? Florida played FSU again in a rematch and got revenge. They were crowned champions regardless.

Mike Gundy on recruiting his son to play QB...

quote:

"I told him that if you come to Oklahoma State, I'll coach you like I do everybody else, maybe harder. If you are the best player than you'll play. If not, then you won't play even though I'm sleeping with your mother."

Yeah the offense that year was pretty vanilla. A lot of the success was that legendary defense getting great field position and turnovers. But it still would have cut through Oklahoma St like a hot knife through butter.

Really? You have no idea? I would say that you can't be that dumb, but you are a Gump, so it's possible.

Should be noted that Oklahoma State had their women's basketball coach die in plane crash the day before the Iowa State game. Easy to see why they might not have been as focused on that game.

They may not have beat LSU, but they definitely deserved to go to the title game.

Without that plane crash, they would have been national champs that year. Sad situation.

Should also be noted that Iowa State was awful, regardless of what happened.
