They were focused on that game

People forget OSU opened a double digit lead and let Iowa State come back.

The plane crash distracted them argument doesn't jive with that at all.

I don't fault Gundy for saying such, what else is he supposed to say? "Ya they would have totally kicked our asses"

The issue I have with Gundy saying this now, is that he could have said it back in 2011- but didn't. Remember, he was meek and subdued in interviews, including after winning the Big 12. The announcers threw him a couple softball questions that he could have jumped on, and campaigned hard for that second spot opposite LSU. He didn't.

And remember also, politicking would have been the thing to do. I think the computers put Okie State into the title game, it was the polls that kept them out. If he'd have made his case on national TV loud and clear, I think they get in.

I honestly think he didn't want that. He had a good, decent team, and a solid shot at finishing #3, which in his case would be great. I think he looked at what LSU and Alabama did to Arkansas (like others have said, possibly the 3rd best team that season), and what LSU did to Oregon, West Virginia at their place, Georgia in Atlanta, and said "nope".

And you know, that's fine, it's not an elite program like OU for example, and going 13-1 or whatever, would have been better for him than getting their teeth kicked in.

But, don't come back a few years later talking shite. He basically ducked the game.

Les Miles would still be LSU coach if Ok State had been LSU’s opponent. No way he gets fired with 2 national titles.

He still would have been fired because he still didnt win anything from 2012-2016. Expectations would have even been higher.

Gundy's a born/bred/raised Oklahoman...once we got back to OSU from Baylor and Maryland, I think he'd planned to stay no matter the $$$.
