I assume Todd Bates gets the full DC role. Former Alabama DL under Franchione and Shula.

Few things

He likely wanted to have a DC job that was his alone. Most assume BV had his imprint all over the D and Zac would never fully get credit. This allows Zac to fully have a defense that is his alone.

He was here 1 year, and a BV clone. His systems are BV systems. So in that regard nothing major lost other than surprise. We have staff on hand who could take over or go outside as well.

Like said, better he leaves now than later. None of our D players came because of Zac they came for BV

lol OU fans will do anything to not criticize BV. This guy called every play this year

The Clemson D was bad. Texas torched them. They had a horrible run defense.

He’s fleeing a sinking ship. Venables would be fired if they had the money. Next year is going to be a disaster. Every coach on that staff who can secure a new job should do so.

If I'm a coach I'm looking for a DIV 2 or NFL job. Anything other than Div high level college football.

Venables has nothing to worry about on that side of the ball - he just needs a young, up and coming coach who is willing to learn.

Does the portal stay open another few days for OU since their bowl game was last night or does it end tonight?

He was here for one season and all we can say about him is he didn't appear to break anything expensive.

In case you haven't noticed, Oklahoma finished the season ranked 19th in total defense so someone was coaching that side of the ball for the Sooners.

As for the DC who accepted a similar position at West Virginia, he was with Rich Rodriguez during his first stint at WV so this move was the equivalent of getting the band back together.

Exactly right.

Rats off a sinking ship. Smart move on his part.

Rats off a sinking ship.

Must be a lot of sinking ships out there if as reported 2300 college athletes have entered the portal this year.

Dang, we could use him for depth at LB. We are thin behind York and Scooby.
