A good portion of the companies started in Texas.
Some like ConocoPhillips moved from Oklahoma.
Not because of income tax but to be better connected.

Georgia has 21 with a 1/3 of the population of Texas and only one major city.

Arkansas has about the same ration of fortune 500 companies to population as Georgia and no major cities.

I was actually thinking about this as well. Given the population of Arkansas it is pretty impressive that they have 6. Not bad at all.

Dallas and Houston each individually have more fortune 500 companies than any other state in the SEC. Dallas has 22 and Houston has 21.

Tennessee has no State income tax either. But all the States around us do. Our Constitution prohibits a State income tax

Thankfully, Knoxville and Chattanooga are booming, which is what I like to see. I have really come to like Knoxville since I have been living here. There is a lot of growth here, and the city itself is surprisingly hip.
Pretty fair assessment imo. Knoxville and Chatt are significantly behind Nashville and Memphis, but both cities continue to grow their city/metro populations and have been & continue to increase their value, brand and perception in a big way. I'm excited about the next 5 years in Knoxville with the progress they've made with The South Knox waterfront & again with the Smokies coming back to the city (date tbd) and having the new baseball stadium built in the Old City when that does happen. That's gonna be huge for that part of downtown. Anyways, Tennessee in general is a great state with nice cities spread out from Memphis to up in the Smokies. Definitely feel blessed to live here

Its a bit divided between the Little Rock area and NW Arkansas. There is a lot of money in Arkansas despite the state being fairly poor over all.
The well off areas of Arkansas are as nice as you will find in America, but the poor areas are dirt poor. I love my state, but its very unbalanced.

Ok head directly south of Nashville or in any direction from Memphis and you will see bumfrick Alabama. Tri-cities are 10x better than that and that’s saying something.
And Chattanooga is the best city in Tennessee for its size.

Directly south of Nashville is Williamson County, which is the seventh wealthiest county in the nation. Directly south of Memphis are the nice suburban areas of Desoto County, MS.
I like East Tennessee, but nowhere else in TN is as bad as the northern Plateau near Kentucky. The Plateau as a whole is a pretty awful place to live. The Tri-Cities are the saving grace of NE Tennessee. Most of that part of the state is Deliverance IRL.
