re: Mike Leach has died…RIP

Posted by kyrik92 on 12/13/22 at 12:53 pm
I think most Kentucky fans who remember Coach Leach’s time as OC here in 97 and 98 have followed his career as fans since he left. Many wish he’d been brought back as HC at some time, but it wasn’t to be.

RIP Coach Mike Leach
quote:

Mike tells a great story in his 'Swing Your Sword' book about playing away games at LSU. Said it's the greatest place to play. Tells a story that starts with his team leaving the hotel en route to the stadium. Stadium was only half-mile away. Police escort took their bus on a long joyride through the worst part of Baton Rouge. Nasty looking area. Arriving at the stadium, people of all ages were gathered to greet them, all screaming "f*** you Kentucky". Some hairy, fat guy mooned them as they exited the bus. Rabid fans groped at them as they entered the stadium. Said nothing comes close to the atmosphere at LSU. He loved it. The players loved it. Said it is the the BEST atmosphere ever.

That was 1998. Even better because Kentucky won on a last second field goal set up by a Quentin McCord end-around on the last play from scimmage in a tied game.
quote:

Whatever happened to Andre Woodson? Went to the Giants and Tom Coughlin tried to "fix" his weird release. Never made it after that.

I recall Mike Martz taking the blame on that even before the draft, but many analysts already were dropping Woodson before the draft.

If I had to take one Kentucky QB and put a college team on his shoulders with 2 minutes left down 7 points it would be Andre Woodson, but that start down at his waist windup throwing motion wasn’t going to make it in the NFL.

Btw he coached for a couple of years; but has been with Amazon for awhile. Currently a regional PR / corporate communications manager.

NIU was a shitty game but we won. Levis showed all his flaws but still threw 4 TDs. The D had its first subpar effort, but we know when they have it together they’re a top 10 defense

We won, even if it was ugly, and teams ahead of us lost. It’s normal to move up unless a team with a dominant win leapfrogs you. We’re ranked too high, but that’s more a function of moving up too many spots for beating UF, though obviously voters thought it was justified at the time.

Sounds like a great idea… more women playing means more spots available for male athletes. To date there’s been nothing like football to balance things out for Title IX compliance which means mens sports get cut. Yeah I assume this isn’t varsity so it doesn’t actually help but it’s an interesting idea

The Auburn President just gave a lesson in using 500 words to say: “go f*** yourselves with a cactus” to the boosters behind this.
Looking at the 2012-2019 NFL drafts 197 running backs have been drafted, 55 in rounds 1-3 (14 in round 1)
I discounted the 2020 and 2021 drafts because those players have had less than 2 years in the League
No RB drafted in 2012 is still in the League, that’s the most recent class for which all round 1-3 RBs are out of the NFL
David Wilson, Montee Ball, Dri Archer, Tre Mason, Bishop Sankey, Derrius Guice - played 2 seasons or less (6 player)

32/55 are still playing
You have to go back to 2015 to find a class with at least 1/2 out of the NFL but it drops off pretty fast past that, only 4 out of 20 round 1-3 picks from 2012-2014 are still playing

Since most round 1-3 picks from 2016-2019 are still playing (24/27) average career length is skewed low at 4.6 years. If you look 2012-2015 (the most recent year with at least 1/2 the round 1-3 picks gone) it’s 5.1 years.

- I’d say the NFL career of a RB picked in the first 3 rounds is around 5 years
- I didn’t track the data but you can visualize a drop off in production and starts around year 4
- RBs are undervalued in the early rounds (by 34% in 1-3 and by 50% in round 1. By this I mean 34% fewer RBs drafted rounds 1-3 than statistically expected) this may just be due to QBs, EDGE rushers, OTs etc being deemed more valuable or may be a hidden indicator that RBs aren’t considered as durable / are more disposable and should be taken with later round picks. There may be pressure to keep round 1-3 RBs at least through their first contract
Someone should overlay the audio on a video of a Nick Saban presser

Look at Auburn Tennessee 1958. Auburn won 13-0. Tennessee did not make a first down and finished with negative 30 yards.

At least the defense gave them a chance to win

At will state

A contract that specifies the reasons you can or cannot be fired takes precedence over the principle of at will employment.

The employer can still terminate for any reason, but if it’s not for cause as defined in the contract they are on the hook for paying the remaining salary due or the liquidated damages (buyout) or whatever they can negotiate to stay out of court.
What has changed (sincere question) to make UGA so much improved over the team that won 14-3 last year in Lexington? Obviously you have (so has Kentucky).

Defensively I think we will do a better job containing your offense than anyone so far… but then I reminder two of our best DL are out hurt so things could get ugly

Our chance for an upset will be getting a short field through turnovers and special teams

Kentucky is the best team Georgia has played this season Probably similar to auburn, and Arkansas.

I didn’t say hugely better, but we’d be favored by at least 3 against either of them right now.

Kentucky is the best team Georgia has played this season. Georgia should win by at least 21 points.
We are 6-0 and playing our best football of the season now, and there is a very real possibility we lose our next 3 games.

Plenty of options for a good 6-0 celebration shirt. This falls in the category of "act like you have been there"

I agree, but it’s the first time we’ve been there (6-0) since 1950

Too bad that show wasn't filmed there. But there was a movie shot there not long ago called Above Suspicion. Up on Little Creek in Cawood too. My kin was calling it Hollerwood. That blond chick in Game of Thrones was in it.

About FBI agent Mark Putnam who killed a local woman, Susan Smith, he was having an affair with (both were married to other people) and got pregnant. And the GOT girl is hot but sucks as an actress.

I forgot how good or bad Terri Wilson was before his injury .I always thought they liked the guy that Started before Lynn Bowden, seth something ..what's the deal with him if Wilson get banged up?

Sawyer Smith, transfer from Troy State. He showed some talent against E. Michigan and Florida, though turnover prone. Suffered a wrist injury that wrecked his passing game and finally pulled for Lynn Bowden.

Starting this season he is either 3rd or 4th string behind Wilson, true-Fr Beau Allen, and Joey Gatewood (who is prob #2) if eligible.
