Virginia Tech has football (Virginia has beaten them one time since 2004, and it's not like UVA is killing it outside of the Commonwealth Cup)
Ok. Tech is not good enough at football now to overwhelm every other factor. Is that better?

Not the case

I would much prefer VA Tech to UVA from a culture and football interest standpoint.
But this makes sense if:
-Clemson/UVA/UNC/FSU go SEC
-GA Tech and Miami or NC St/Va Tech go B1G
That means 6+ teams have left and the GOR is null and void.
For those who care about academics, adding UVA, UNC, Texas and even Clemson to a lesser degree to the SEC would be an incredible profile and research boost.

FSU, UVA, and UNC are the 3 that make the most sense to me. GT/VT/Miami...one of them being the 4th. I'm a big fan of GT coming back just so the conference can fully lockdown Atlanta.
Clemson, while great at football, just not sure how much sense they would make for an "expansion".

Agree. The SEC needs to expand outside of the south.
I'd rather trade Missouri for Clemson. Oklahoma and Kentucky are pushing it. At least UK has history with the SEC, and good bourbon, so they get a pass.

Va Tech makes more sense than Virginia does. NC State would probably be a better fit that NC. Swap out those 2 teams and the SEC would 1 hell of a football league.

You don’t understand politics in the state of North Carolina.
UNC runs the board of regents which controls NC State and take pleasure in lording it over them at every turn.
It’s Bama with UAB on steroids.
They would never allow NC State to leave for another conference unless it benefitted UNC somehow.
In other words, Carolina won’t bring NC State unless it makes them more money or adds to their control over them instate.

I agree that NC State is a better fit than UNC overall, especially because I can see whomever joins the SEC as getting a popularity boost within the state.
However, if the SEC offers UNC and they accept... NC State, well, kind of falls apart. They're not joining the Big Ten, and it'll be a big blow to fan enthusiasm to go from playing games in the ACC to (best-case scenario) having matchups against TCU, Utah and Arizona State.
If UNC joins the Big Ten, I still think that NC State to the SEC makes sense and their football program would benefit wildly but UNC would retain a sizable fanbase.

It's harder to imagine a better "what 6 teams should we add to get to 20" from the past decade than UNC, UVA, Clemson, Florida State, Texas, and Oklahoma. The Big Ten certainly hasnt added schools like that outside of maybe USC from the nobody cares about college football coast.

Strangely, I applaud this move.

I just wonder if UK would put up any major resistance and try to block UNC for joining the SEC. Right now UK is the basketball power of the SEC. Bringing in a BBall blue blood like UNC and that could ruffle some feathers in Lexington.

I'm going to be a casual fan by the time they're done shaking things up. I used to watch college football from 11am to 11pm. I can see myself only watching LSU games in the future. It's just not fun anymore.

This is what makes rivalries great. Expansion that makes sense.
Gonna be weird as an Oregon fan drumming up hate for Purdue or KState

As a native, State doesn't want to be away from UNC. UNC couldn't care less

Not that it matters but Slive would probably tell them, "Okay, it's either UNC or Louisville. You pick."
