McLendon was HCIW and interim HC at USCe but they passed on him. Racist school.

Oh boy, you really have no self-awareness, do you? A substantial percentage of current issues in this country is a direct result of the Jim Crow era that, by the way, long outlasted the official beginning of the Civil Rights era. It really is that simple. However, we have a portion of the population that can't even bear to have the history taught, let alone understand that solving today's issues will absolutely be dependent on untangling the knots which were tied so tightly for decades. The worse the sins of the father, the longer they will trouble the lives of the sons....if you want to put it in Biblical terms.

If Mel Tucker wins 10 games a year until Saban retires, he'll get the job at Alabama and no one will bat an eye. If you can coach, you can coach. Period.
All this stuff is BS.
All this stuff is BS.

I know this will keep some folks going.. .But let me be blunt, at the risk of being labeled a racist.
If you had a choice of hiring an black coach, or a white coach with the exact same pedigree, who would you hire and why?
Me, the white one for one reason only. Because if it went south, which many do, I wouldn't have to deal with this crap as well. The fear of the "racism" backlash is enough to cause what has happened period.
that and terrible coaching!

I'm not a big fan of Croom because he comes across as arrogant. But the fact of the matter is that across P5 football approximately 75% of the starters on teams are Black players. And as long as that is the case there is going to be complaining about the lack of Black coaches.
And this simply goes back to the fact that some people infer from this that Blacks make really good hands... and can even be foremen. But the Big Boss...nah. It's a stigma that will exist until we have more Black head coaches be successful. And sadly, that just hasn't happened to any great degree yet.

And until Alabama does what is right - fires Nick Saban - and hires Hue Jackson ? Then, sadly, the pattern will continue.

Slightly off topic- didn't Mason have some kind of dustup with another HC and threatened to beat his arse a few years ago?

Ironic if true. As his team beat absolutely nobody's arse on the field.

No.
Football in the SEC is entirely about money and winning. If the PTB think you can deliver championships, you can be purple.

In 2004 Saban rolled Crooms Miss St team 51-0 with a final yardage tally of 599-130.
That dude was horrible lol.
I hate the racist equity representation woke garbage. It's ruined art, higher ed, and the country.
Please leave football alone

He’s been salty ever since Alabama hired Shula instead of him. Blamed it on the good ole boys not wanting a black HC.

You can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink...
Black coaches were sought for interview and most turned them interviews down. Bienemy comes to mind. James Franklin... Mel Tucker...

My guess is ESPN cares more than Sylvester Croom

You can use "they aren't good" as a rationalization when probably half of the coaches in the league aren't that good.
Blacks make up 13% of the population compared to whites making up over 60%. Assuming both races are equal in all factors, meaning the same percentage of the black population are qualified candidates as the white population, you’d have no more than 2 SEC black coaches.
Now take into account variable factors that can make each group have a higher or lower percentage of qualified candidates such as average IQ, socio economic conditions, education, etc. You’ll find that the black population has a much lower percentage of qualified candidates in a smaller overall group to choose from. So it becomes impossible to fill the “appropriate” amount of positions with black candidates without using under qualified people. And SEC football is big money and alumni aren’t going to shell out millions to pay for an under qualified coach

The lack of black coaches in the south is concerning. It is bad everywhere really but as usual, it is the worst down there.
I look for congress to step in and do something.

The bigger problem is there are no female cheerleaders at atm and that's a major problem. Besides Ole Miss has Kiffin, I know technically he's not black but still the same thing.

Where’s the outcry for more Asian and Mexican coaches?
