He was something else. I would go with this statement. Manziel needs to be in that conversation as well but he could be defended at times. Cam was the most dominant I've ever seen followed by Barry Sanders but Watson is right there. You could never relax with that guy on the field.

Deshaun Watson
Robert Griffin III
Cam Newton
Johnny Manziel
Tim Tebow
Vince Young
Colin Klein
Dan LeFevour
Colin Kaepernick

All exciting college players to watch, and I'm sure I left some out.

Lamar Jackson will be added to this list soon.

Cam was obviously amazing. Butt manziel and Watson gave us more trouble. Look at manziels stats in both games vs Alabama.
Manziel/Watson
Cam
We shut cam down completely the first half, we didn't come close to shutting manziel or Watson down for 2 minutes..

Yea - when I think of dominant, or I think the way Saban is defining it, I think of a guy who can totally take over a game by himself and elevate the entire team to a level they probably shouldn't be able to play at.

Watson and Manziel did that. I'll be honest, I didn't watch Luck enough at Stanford to know if he did (and Saban probably didn't either). I don't really think a running back can even do it. I think it really almost has to be a dual threat type QB who makes things happen even when all seems lost like Watson and Manziel do/did.

Manziel, Watson and Cam are the only 3 players I've seen in the last 10 years or so (and saw all in person) who were able to smoothly avoid pressure, run around looking crazy and then calmly stop and make impossible throws down the field. Tebow was able to do that to an extent, but he didn't really run controlled chaos like those 3 did.

My thoughts exactly.

Clemsons OL was not nearly as good as aTm. That had a lot to do with JM success. Bama harassed Watson all night. Texas Am actually played pretty well against Bamas front 7.

Disagree.

Cam dominated a conference with actual defenses and went undefeated on a team that would have been garbage without him

I do not think he is great, we throw that term around loosely lately. He is very good though. I think Cam, Tebow, Mariota, and RGII are a class above Watson.

Remember when threw that jump pass to seal the deal against the Sooner team with the incredibly overrated offense.

Wait, I should clarify as the last part of that sentence basically describes every single OU team. I mean the 2008 Sooners.

That was a lot of Urban Meyer doing there. Otherwise, Tebow would have done well in the NFl and not been a flunkie.

So like how Gus made Mcfadden look special?

Bradford? Wasn't basically Graham Harrell on a team with more talent? I mean you can hate on Tebow but at least he showed up in big games.

Haha Manziel was no game changer like Cam.

Cam Newton was unstoppable and will'd his pretty mediocre team to an undefeated championship. They had a couple of spectacular defensive players.. but overall Cam took that team to a level of greatness.

Manziel could be stopped.. see LSU every time for starters..

Cam Newton in college was really something special.

i haven't seen much defense in SEC last few years. and last year, not much offense.

Clemson took Cam's team to overtime and lead 17-0 in the game until the QB got rocked. but he was dominating the SEC.

You could argue with big time RBs such as Marcus Lattimore or Todd Gurley. Obviously I want to make it clear that I'm not mentioning Lattimore just because I'm a Carolina fan, I say this because I know firsthand what he was capable of at South Carolina back then. I believe that if he didn't play vs. Bama back in 2010 that we wouldn't have won that game as well as other games I'm sure.

Now to argue if he was as dominant as Cam is another thing.

Big arguments vs. Lattimore would definitely be that he was plagued with injuries at the end, that he wasn't always dominant in his time playing, and no Natty. Of course I also want to state that I don't think Lattimore is nearly as dominant as Cam. Just figured that I should mention him.

I think that while Deshaun is certainly a strong QB now, I feel we shouldn't make these comparisons until his time in College comes to an end. At least I feel we can come to more of a collective conclusion with more numbers and more information. Personally, I think it's a premature comparison between him and Cam. He could win the Natty in the coming years which could add to his resume or he might not be able to reproduce the numbers he's already put up which could hurt him. It could go either way in my opinion.

I feel when we're comparing players like this it's best to do it when both players finish their careers for a better judgement call.
