Kentucky, Arky, & Barn all have more NIL than every BigX school except 5. MissSt has more NIL than Rutgers and Maryland each almost 2 to 1.
And where will it get those schools? The same exact finish as Rutgers and Maryland. Which is sort of embarrassing. Rutgers and Maryland don’t give a shitt about football.

Because he didn’t win the SEC West every year between 2009-2020. He was good, but he didn’t dominate like he did from 2011-2018. Alabama finished 4th in the SEC west in 2010 and 2nd in 2019.
He didnt win every sec west title from 2011-2018 either. I'm just wondering why his first and last national titles are getting cut off from his run of dominance at Alabama.

Saban found it more difficult to win on a level playing field $ wise.
Saban was able to stay ahead of the field by playing in the gray area of the rules. Knowing once he was able to be successful others would either try to do the same or complain and new rules would come out. The Saban bump rule when on campus unofficially, grayshirting, etc. The problem when NIL and Transfer portal came about was there was no entity around to address in or slow it down. He saw CFB was going to become the wild wild west and did not want to be a part of it.

I think it's less Saban and more Kirby. "Well UGA fired their 10 win a year HC and upgraded, we can too!" - Penn State and LSU
Disagree only because Richt was at Georgia for a long by time. Schools today are giving 3 years and firing folks

Yeah, many of these schools are insane. But it’s the fans who are the dumbest of all. Why do fanbases of so many schools continue to spend dollar after dollar while their schools make dumb decision after dumb decision. Then these same fans of these schools make fun of other fanbases.
Take for example Arkansas or Miss St or South Carolina. They love to talk crap about sold out stadiums and SEC pride while making fun of fanbases like Duke and others who don’t support dumb decisions by not buying tickets or showing up to games. Who’s dumber - the fanbase who continues to throw money at programs who haven’t done a thing for decades or fans of programs who actually show their disgust by not showing up?
Take my team, GT. We have been mid for decades with a few pretty good years thrown in here and there like finishing #8 in 2014. Our fans show our disgust by not showing up thus forcing the school to decide if they want to compete or not. Under Collins we hit rock bottom and season tix sales plummeted and the stadium was half empty. We should have been applauded for standing up to incompetence but instead the SEC types laugh and make fun. But guess what? It forced our admin to make a decision and now we are winning games. Sure, we aren’t world beaters but winning is winning, Meanwhile, other fanbases continue to show up week after week, year after year, decade after decade, spend their money, while all they see is mediocrity and yet they have the balls to talk about schools like Maryland and Duke whose fans aren’t that dumb.

Any law passed by Congress would be tossed out by the courts in a heartbeat. There is no federal governmental interest in preserving the best interests of college football for fans.
There is nobody going to ride in on a white horse and return this stuff to the way it used to be. Where we are right now was the inevitable end game of this becoming a zillion dollar business rather than an amateur sport.

Every school can spend 100 million dollars but there will still only be 1 National Champion

This thread isn’t about Alabama. It is about how Nick Saban’s success shifted the perception of success. When Kirby misses the playoffs you will see some Georgia fans screaming about getting a new coach.
Penn State spent $50 million to fire James Franklin 6 games after making the playoffs, winning 13 games, and finishing ranked 5th.
LSU spent over $50 million to fire Brian Kelly, who had won 29 games the previous 3 seasons and was number two in career wins among active power four coaches going into 2025.
At this point it feels like almost every coach is just a few key injuries or portal whiffs away from being fired.
In an environment like today Bear Bryant would have been fired in 1970 after back to back 6 win seasons. Instead he got things straightened out and won 8 SEC titles and 3 national titles in the 1970s.
At the end of the day, there are only a handful of elite coaches to go around. For every Kirby Smart type hire, there are a plethora of Billy Napier type hires.
There is a bidding war underway for Lane Kiffin.. That is where we are.

Way to miss the point.

"we" are watching with amusement because we have our guy and the history of Georgia Coaches punctuated by the lack of coaching searches would seem to indicate that this is something Georgia gets right. Goff...Maybe Donnan...those are the only 2 misses in my life and I'm old as dirt

Funny thing is Saban told everyone EXACTLY how all of this would play out, portal included.
He said the rich would get richer which was totally wrong. When he said it, he meant that schools with a "rich" history would get more and better players but what's actually happening is that literally the rich are getting richer in that schools that aren't traditional blue bloods but are willing to invest in NIL are quickly taking over. He was smart to get out.
