No way, Saban obviously loves it in Tuscaloosa.

What a convoluted story.

A lot of "a friend of a friend that I refuse to name said he said this."

Can't believe they decided to print this based on someone a Texas regent refuses to name...and none of what this person says can be substantiated.

Here is an interesting quote in the article from Texas AD, Steve Patterson -

"Patterson says he believes he knew what Sexton was up to. “I’ve known Jimmy for 30 years,” he says. “I told him if he wanted to come here and drink bourbon and eat barbecue and talk about Saban, that’d be fine. But I told him not to come here if he just wanted to get Saban an extension and a raise at Alabama, which I thought was his intention all along.

“Of course, Jimmy took great affront to that, which is fine. He was just doing his job. But that was the end of the conversation. I never talked to Saban and we never made an offer.”"

Too much of this story comes from the Texas side to be fully credible. Their boosters and fans alike are pretty arrogant, similar to Alabama fans.

It reminds me a little of the Gregg Marshall to Alabama rumors. We all thought it was a done deal, similar to UTx and Saban. As we found out, money can't buy everything.

I was hoping for a lot more new details. That article was kind of a let down, except to reinforce the fact that the UT administration lacked the competence to get the deal done.

Saban does seem to love Tuscaloosa. He's been there for nearly a decade. Both kids graduated from UA. He invested heavily in local opportunities, including his Mercedes dealership up the road in Birmingham. Not to mention his actions since the tornado in 2011. His Nick Kids Foundation has been paramount in the rebuilding effort of Alberta City, and other lower income areas of Tuscaloosa.

That all being said, I know it's a business and he feels he has to jockie for more money and leverage for his long term security.

sounds like Sexton played Texass like he does every school just to get his client more money, Texas bought into it more than most because they think they are all that.
Lets see;
1. dangle carrot in moron boosters face.
2. boster runs to tell AD of Texass.
3. Texas AD and boosters tell Mack to pack his bags
4. Saban gets more money from Bama
5. Texas AD and Boosters go WTF and start a coaching search

Well technically it is an excerpt from a biography on Saban. Still really interesting stuff. Glad it didn't work out

Texas was about the only college job Saban could use as leverage and he did that and Bama paid up.

At the end of this year he will start flirting with the NFL again to fleece Bama for more money.

Is it really fleecing? The ROI would say, no!
