Not gameday, but back in the SWC days we all used to steal mascots.

Baylor’s Bear
quote:

In the 1950s, two Aggie students drove to Waco and stole the Baylor mascot, a young bear cub, from the Baylor campus. While they were driving back to College Station in a brand–new car belonging to one of their families, the bear became enraged. Twenty–miles from Waco, the bear ripped out the inside of the car, and the boys set it free. The young men were caught when they took the car to be repaired.[4]

In 1954, Baylor mascot Nip and her trailer disappeared. Yet, the next day both the bear and trailer were found under a bridge on the highway to College Station.

Branding Bevo
quote:

Six Aggies, aka the "Branding Bunch," stole the University of Texas' new mascot and branded the longhorn with 13-0, the outcome of the 1915 A&M victory over UT. This kidnapping is generally regarded as how the mascot got its name, Bevo.

When the Texas students finally found its steer, they modified the "13-0" to look like "Bevo." (UT's website disputes the claim and says its students did not rebrand the steer's hide.) In 1920, Bevo was cooked up and served at a barbecue with A&M officials as guests. A&M students would steal Bevo again in 1963.

Tech’s Quarter Horse
quote:

The 9-year-old quarter horse mare disappeared from her stables on the Tech campus Friday evening, according to an Oct. 6, 1963

The horse was eventually found about noon Sunday after searchers returned to the area to discover Tech Beauty tied to a feed trough in a barn.

But Tech Beauty had been haphazardly shaved and had the letters 'AMC' painted in white or silver paint on each side.

My good friend at MSU, played football. He played offense line. His replacement was this huge brother from some real small town in MS. I don’t think this dude ever left home much and know for sure he had never seen a live tiger.

Back in the day LSU cheerleaders used to park Mike the Tiger in his cage/trailer right in front of the tunnel that visiting team came onto to the field thru. The cheerleaders would have boom sticks and jab Mike making him growl as the other team squeezed between the trailer and tunnel to gain entrance to the field.

My friend had to literally shove this dude past the trailer. The dudes eyes were big as saucers, he was trembling and frozen in place. He was totally scared to death of that tiger in the cage that was growling.

We do it on the other end zone on the big games. There is an old athletic trainer in our section who has a meltdown each time and tries to get the ball so he can throw it back on the field.

Well, now I know what I'm looking for this season during Auburn games...

Bringing in dates from out of town—often from Texas State College for Women.

We used to have a freshman game on Thanksgiving versus Georgia Tech (fundraiser game for children's hospital).

That stopped in the 70s.

The railroad track people at Sanford Stadium. Until the East EZ was closed in after the 80 season, the EZ was open. Running across the end zone is a railroad track where people who didn’t want to pay admission would sit up on the tracks and the steep bank leading to field level. It was a raucous and hard core element of the fan base who made it a weekly tradition. Many would camp out overnight and the level of partying of the track people, as they came to be known, was a version of the wild Wild West of fandom.

Legendary UGA Defensive Coordinator, Erk Russell, had the below to say when addressing the Bulldog players prior to the start of the 1980 NC season.

“There are two Saturday traditions and experiences which have remained basically the same throughout the years for me and I would like to share them with you.

The first one concerns the RAILROAD TRACK CROWD. These are my people because they love the Dogs almost as much as I do. Oh, I know they do some crazy things- like turn over our opponent’s buses sometimes and now and then they throw one another down the bank and into the street below. But they stamp out Kudzu and they pull for us to win and that ain't bad. If you can get off the bus to cheers of THE RAILROAD TRACK CROWD and walk down those steps to the dressing room and not be inspired to play football as best you possibly can, something important is missing beneath the Georgia jersey you wear. It is impossible not to be inspired. They choke me up!

The season of 1980 will be the last for THE RAILROAD TRACK CROWD. A great Georgia tradition will have passed with the new addition to our stadium. The view from the tracks will be no more.

Your team will be the last Georgia Team to be greeted and cheered by the RAILROAD TRACK CROWD. Wouldn't it be fitting if their last team was also the best Georgia Team ever? Think about it!”

That sounds exciting. Listening in unison for scores. Sad we didn't have that.

Of course it's probably too damn hot for the first home game now

Coat and tie was hot, PJ were damn near cool compared to that. Of course this is what PJ's looked like then

Now most folks sleep in short and a t shirt (if they don't sleep commando) so technically they are wearing the same same to sleep as to the game so unchanged?

That's actually pretty cool EKG.

I think a lot of military colleges used to do that. I have a couple of Uncles and a Cousin who graduated from The Citadel and they used to pipe in girls from the College of Charleston back in the day.

At Auburn the stadium announcer used to announce scores from around the SEC during timeouts and the crowd would listen together and react.

When I was at Alabama in the late seventies, invariably at each home game, early on, the announcer would come on with a score like, "In the first quarter, Northwestern 3, Michigan 0" and the crowd would erupt. Then there would be no more updates for three hours, and then you'd get "Final score...Michigan 63, Northwestern 3."

If it’s been the same guy since 05 that guy was a little over the top. I’d just wait for them to throw it out the back and retrieve it from there.
