Players from the Mountain West have joined those from the Pac-12 and Big Ten in demanding reforms ahead of the 2020 college football season. A group of players called Mountain West United shared a list of "conditions to be agreed upon amongst the conference, coaches, and athletes in order to ensure our health, safety, and well-being" via social media.

The Mountain West United campaign asserts there is "too much ambiguity surrounding the state of affairs in this country to demand competition as we know it."

"As the foundation of the entertainment and competition provided by the sport of Gridiron Football, we, the athletes, do not feel safe enough participating in this upcoming season without reform," the group's statement said.

Some of the groups have already been addressed by NCAA guidelines released this week. But here is the full list of requests as made by the Mountain West United group:
quote:

Testing, Prevention, and Safety
>Athletes will receive COVID-19 tests every week and at least 72 hours before each match as instructed by the NCAA*
>Staff members, including coaches, trainers, and everyone in contact with athletes, will receive COVID-19 tests every week
>Football facilities will follow strict cleaning protocols with adherence to CDC guidelines
>Contact-tracing protocols with adherence to CDC guidelines*
>Proper accommodations and safety standards for alternative outdoor facilities put in place to adhere with social-distancing guidelines

Eligibility and Scholarship
>Athletes who choose to opt-out of season due to COVID-19 concerns will receive a hardship waiver to grant them an additional year of eligibility, regardless of athlete's timeline on five-year clock*
>Athletes who contract COVID-19 during season, and miss more than 30% of competition, will receive a hardship waiver to grant them an additional year of eligibility, regardless of athlete's timeline on five-year clock
>In even of cancellation of over 50% of scheduled season, all athletes will receive a hardship waiver to grant them an additional year of eligibility, regardless of athlete's timeline on five-year clock
>Preserve scholarship (including tuition and fees, room and board, and cost-of-attendance stipend and roster spot) for any athlete who is granted hardship waiver due to COVID-19*

Player assurances
>Ban and void all COVID-19 liability waivers*
>Ensure coverage of all out-of-pocket medical expenses related to COVID-19 incurred by athletes for five years after exhaustion of eligibility*
>Whistleblower protection for athletes and staff who report suspected violations to COVID-19 safety protocols*

*Denotes that a policy addressing all or some of the request has been established by the NCAA

In response, the Mountain West released its own statement supporting #MWUnited.

This is absurd. If they want to sit out, sit out. No one is entitled to extensions of eligibility or financial aid, much less a 5 yr extension of health insurance cover umbrella for a non sports related condition.

Demanding an end to waiver liability would also be a non starter.

I see nothing wrong with any of this except for maybe expecting to still receive benefits without playing.

They'll get that though, the conferences would be crucified if they didnt.

Another irrelevant conference with an irrelevant list of demands. The MWC could stop playing football permanently tomorrow and literally no one would care.

Why do these dainty ladies think their life is at risk? MWC should void their scholly, tell them to pound sand and wait for your NFL combine invite..luls.

Yes they should. And the SEC should do the same when the players in that conference does the same. That way the NFL will absolutely change their draft policy to include straight out of high school players and all these top athletes can stop wasting their time playing for lowly colleges and start getting paid immediately.

Love it!!!

The NFL doesn't want to draft highschool players straight to the NFL. Its next to impossible to scout NFL talent in highschool.

They would have to have a minor league, but it wouldn't be nearly as successful as college football, with the history and school ties.

Because a 7 yr old child died yesterday from CV19 in Chatham County GA, - Savannah Area, the child had no pre existing conditions

The medical Community isn't sure what factor in your Body Chemistry makes CV19 extra dangerous for a person, so you Trumpf-tards need to stop listening to this a-hole and start listening to the Science & Medical Establishment

I don't see any problem with 99% of that.

If they void a COVID-19 liability waiver, then there will be no football. The universities will have no liability insurance. And the universities will not assume that risk themselves.

But there is nothing wrong with anything else in the demands. Aren't the basketball and baseball players from the spring already granted an extra year of eligibility if they choose?

That's right Sidewalk, Science is about discovery, until the exact factors that make this thing deadly for those with no pre existing conditions are identified, until the Science & Medical Establishment finds a vaccine or a specific risk factor in those with no pre existing conditions, then listen to the Science & Medical Establishment and Social Distance, wear Masks, wash hands frequently, etc

What I wrote above makes more sense than that bullshite you wrote that has caused the spread of this thing and has threatened FB Season

Just because the Science & Medical Establishment hasn't figured out everything yet, you're still better off listening to them than fricking Trumpf

Why would should I expect Trump to be the leading expert on a pandemic?

Why do liberals feel like a president needs to be the foremost authority on every topic and your moral compass?

I can live my own life, I dont need a president to tell me how.

Had always respected that conference and enjoyed their football on the other 6 days of the week other than the holy day of Saturday.

Now, Mountain Wimps.
