So it came to pass that just more than 57,000 filed into Denny Stadium on Oct. 27, 1973 to behold one of the most dominating wins in Alabama football history. The Crimson Tide won the game 77-6 racking up a staggering 833 yards on offense in the process- an NCAA record at the time (eclipsed on Oct. 21, 1989 with Houston's 1,021 yards versus SMU).

The 63 runs for 748 yards the Crimson Tide tallied against the Hokies that afternoon remains the NCAA record for highest average gain per rush (minimum of 50 rushes). No less than four backs, Corky Tharp, Jimmy Taylor, Wilbur Jackson and Richard Todd broke the 100-yard mark that game (an NCAA record shared with four other teams).

You got that from this article by some guy on SB Nation.

Corky Tharp going over 100 yards.

If you had read the comments to the article, you would have seen this comment, by yours truly, added 9 years ago:

"Did we have to vacate that win in 1973...
…for using an ineligible player?

Because Corky Tharp played for Alabama in 1953 and 1954. I’m guessing he had used up his eligibility by 1973…and he also had probably lost a step, since he would have been about 40 years old in 1973. Not that it would have mattered…my grandmother could have gotten 100 yards behind our offensive line against VT that night.

Tharp was Bama’s leading rusher in 1954.
LINK

Calvin Culliver was the other 100 yard rusher that night.
LINK

Also, Culliver, Jackson, Todd, and Taylor were named co-Backs of the Week by AP."

The writer never replied to my comment, nor did he edit his article.

UGA over Missouri in 2014 was pretty bad.

34-0 score, 42 min to 18 min T.O.P, 379/147 yardage, first time they crossed the 50 with 2 minutes til half..we sack stripped the QB. It was chubbs first start he had 38 carries and 140 or so yards.

Does that 94 in your username reference your birth-year in 1894?

Bama 49-0 over AU in 2012. 42-0 at the half. When Bama went up 49-0 in the 3rd, AU had ~80 yds total O.

42-14 at JH the previous year was similar. Held Gus's O scoreless and 140 yds total O. Had ~50 yds total O with ~5 min left in the game.

I think this was the game Bo literally fell asleep on the sideline in the second half. Don't know if it's true but have heard about it.

the Hurts led wishbone that Locksley is rolling out is going to make rushing games like that common place, so let him have his factually incorrect piece.

That's the most dominant performance you can think of in your team's history?
it was certainly one of the most enjoyable in W-B. the knockout punch by Ace on the PR in 1Q to go up 21-0 was one of, if not, the loudest crowd reactions ever in the stadium - and we've had a lot of those through the decades.

the most dominant performance
Carolina's had quite a few. 1987 season alone was filled with 6 straight dominating performances over 7 weeks with the bye.

40-10 over Virginia Tech (p5)
58-10 over Virginia (p5)
34-12 over East Carolina
48-0 over NC State (p5)
30-0 over Wake Forest (p5)
20-7 over Clem U

that's 230 - 39 combined

eta - Gamecocks were the de facto 1987 ACC football champs that season, too. beat the top 4 teams (the only 4 with a winning record in league play) that season.

May have been. It was the week after AU went to UT ranked #1 and got humiliated by UT. Sports Illustrated ripped AU a new arse, essentially called Pat Dye an idiot, AU players weak and Bo Jackson a quiter.

Obviously Dye and AU were not in a very good mood when Ole Miss showed up at JH 7 days later. Very very bad timing for Ole Miss. And it was a 7pm ESPN game so lot of people watching.

quote:

Rebels coach Billy Brewer seemed shocked after the game.
``I was afraid a sleeping giant would wake up -- they did tonight,`` he said. ``This game was salve on Dye's wounds after last week.
``If I had Bo Jackson, I would give him the ball 48 times a game. We`re not a bad tackling team, but he made us look bad.``

2011 Cap One Bowl vs Michigan State is probably the worst beatdown of a good team that I have witnessed Alabama administer in person. It’s the only time I can remember seeing a team have to punt on 4th and goal.

Arkansas has been in too many to count, on both ends of the scoreboard.

Most recently, however, weve been on the losing end.

In 2013 you can pick just about any game on the schedule.

More recently was last years Bama game and 2016 Auburn

That Oklahoma beatdown of A&M was brutal. I still don't get that one.

It took a decade(basically the 70's) to figure out if you can match that offensive scheme athlete for athlete, then it is useless. An athletic defense that plays disciplined should shut it out every time. Why it never worked in the nfl.

1996 Florida 65 Kentucky 0

Florida had 65 total points. Kentucky had something like 65 total yards.

I remember people just chatting in the stands during the game like we were watching practice.

The winning streak over Kentucky was only at 10 games that year.

Surprised no one has mentioned Bama over A&M 2014.

59-0 final. After 33 minutes, it was 52-0 and Bama was out gaining A&M 515-50.
