A Tuscaloosa judge also ruled that signing a pro contract makes a player ineligible to return to college.
I believe that was the first court ruling on a pro trying to return to college.
It will be interesting to see if appeal or federal judges will consider that as precedent.
At this point the SEC plans to file a federal lawsuit, and hopes the judge will order a stay on all of this until the hearing. That will shut all this down until then.
There is no way college football can operate if different local judges are making conflicting rulings on the same issue.

They would not let him participate with a waiver.

This is not the case. 5 for 5 eligibility only applies to Class of 2027 onward and the pro restrictions are still very much in place.

Wrong.
The SEC and NCAA have already granted several players an extra year under the new rule. Hence the lawsuits.

I hope the next step is that every former player who did not go onto the pros and only played 4 years fights for their extra year, while contesting the ambiguous age restriction as well.

In Webb's case, he never had an NFL contract - only attended a mini-camp / tryout. I'm just clarifying that - not saying it's right or wrong. I can understand the players argument here. He probably would have not attended that camp knowing he had a sure thing with another year of eligibilty in college - but the NCAA didn't change the rule before the camps, and even then they initially were not including last years class. That took legal action.

Not sure I agree with that. I've been paid travel and meal expenses by prospective employers to travel to job interviews. I've also signed NDAs with them, which is a legal document, but in no way was an employment contract.
