It's all pink on the inside, brother.

I mean think about it. They offer nothing to the SEC, they suck at everything, but they get all the benefits and cuts of the loot from what is good about the conference.
Mizzou's athletic department as a whole has always been an underachieving and underfunded embarrassment. Football had one decent decade in the past 70 years, and praise to Gary Pinkel for being there at the right time to single-handedly land us a spot in the SEC. Talk about right time, right place.
I do think Mizzou football will improve significantly in the coming years. Thanks in no small part to the SEC, the money will continue to be there to fund the program and continued upgrades to facilities. Recruiting has been at an unprecedented high for the past several seasons and most of our old rivals (Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, and Colorado) are locked in less competitive and less lucrative conferences, giving us a firm recruiting edge over them.
To be a bit fair to Mizzou, when it entered the SEC in 2012, our facilities, coaching salaries, recruiting, etc. were decades behind the SEC heavyweights. Those things are slowly catching up.
Now the University needs to get on board and embrace the SEC. Even to date, Mizzou does baffling things like deliberately breaking up any semblance of a tailgating experience and making gameday weekends a mediocre experience. The forced/fake bullshite traditions are also so cringey. Mizzou also needs to pull its head out of its arse when events like the 2015 protests occur, you will note how attendance dropped significantly after that occurred, as well as applications to attend the school. With a lot of this, I have my concerns, I am not convinced that we have the right A.D. to turn the corner.

Our wrestling program is badass, this one is on the SEC for somehow not having this as a sponsored sport.

As long as Rutgers is in the B1G, we can't fairly claim that title.

No they are like an over weight person who had their stomach stapled (going to the SEC) but didn't lose any weight.

Says the... Iowa State fan?
The same Iowa State that is a whopping 34-61 against Mizzou? (The most wins MU has against ANY not-so big 12 team)
You have had a few decent years now, but don't forget you were a punching bag for easily 30+ years... Sounding kind of salty you got left behind right when you were starting to feel relevant for the first time

I mean, Mizzou won the East division twice. A&M has never gone to Atlanta. Heck, I could be wrong, but neither has Ole Miss or Kentucky.

I think the thing holding Mizzou back is the fanbase. I don't say that to be snarky but I moved out to Missouri a couple of years back, live an hour and a half due south of Mizzou and I rarely see anything related to the University. All I see are Chiefs & Cards logos, hardly any Mizzou apparel. The interest just doesn't seem to be there for college football nor Mizzou football. I have been up there for a few games and always enjoy it there in Columbia but it just seems like once you leave campus the interest doesn't exist.

This is a chicken and egg situation, because in my opinion, the lukewarm fanbase is a direct consequence of poor decision-making by the University to repeatedly and deliberately downplay the role of athletics. This is particularly true for football, compared to its powerful regional rivals, like Nebraska and OU who went all-in 50+ years ago. Mizzou tried to ween off athletics in the 80s and 90s in order to move the school upstream academically. It obviously backfired, but Mizzou basically had invested nothing in athletics from the early 80s until the late 90s. And even to this day, the University has this one foot in, one foot out attitude toward its athletic department. Most SEC schools don't seem to have this problem.

I'm sure you are right to some extent but having grown up in and having been in the Army, I've lived throughout the South and Missouri just seems different. Right outside of Leonard Wood the few sports bars we have are pretty good for college football watching but that has a lot to do with the soldiers on post. Go 30 minutes north of post where I am, go into a bar on a college football Saturday and there is nothing, nobody cares. Go even further north to Osage and the games may be on, but nobody is watching. Prior to moving here I lived in Gainesville, FL and it didn't matter where you were in the state, if it was a Saturday, every sports bar was packed. All that said, I've enjoyed my time in Columbia, never made it there when we were in the Big 12. It's a fun town with some great folks, tailgate scene needs some work though
