Mississippi State led the nation in pass attempts per game. More surprising, LSU was #4

I knew LSU threw the ball more than they ran because the run game wasn't very good, but I had no clue they threw it 42 times a game. They only trailed 2 Air Raid teams and a spread passing team in Purdue in P5.

Pass Attempts Per Game
1. Mississippi State (50.6)
2. USC (44.2)
3. Purdue (43.5)
4. Arkansas St (42.1)
4. LSU (42.1)

13. Florida (39.4)
27. Missouri (36.3)
47. Ole Miss (33.5)
48. Vanderbilt (33.4)
52. Auburn (32.9)
59. Alabama (31.7)
74. Georgia (30.6)
76. Texas A&M (30.2)
82. South Carolina (29.5)
90. Tennessee (28.5)
91. Arkansas (28.4)
121. Kentucky (22.0)

That's what happens when you cannot run the ball effectively

Which is exactly why I told them Brennan was overrated. Throwing for 400 yards is less impressive when you throw the ball 50 times a game with a unimpressive completion percentage and multiple interceptions.

Was it smart to let 3 very inexperienced QBs throw it that many times a game?

58.7 comp%
2.67 TDs per INT

That’s how it goes when you can’t stop the other offense and every game turns into a shootout

Attempts isn’t really a good stat. Yards per attempt is better. They were dinking and dunking swing passes and check downs all game.

Well it isn't a stat to determine who was good at something like YPA is. But yea, they used the passing game as a running game starting about mid season - especially against Arkansas and Ole Miss.

Proving the point. 45/61 for 440 throwing and 14 carries for 57 yards.

You dink and dunk with the passing game.

And that 440 you’re crowing about was against literally the worst defense in not the SEC but the country and you managed 24 points.

Myles Brennan
60.3% 1,112 yards, 11 touchdowns, 3 interceptions

JT Daniels
67.2% 1,231 yards, 10 touchdowns, 2 interceptions

Brennan was starting for the first time ever, had a very inexperienced unit around him, had no running game to lean on, and LSU receivers were top 5 in the country for dropped passes early in the year.

Brennan threw two picks vs Ms State, both in the last few minutes of the game when lsu was desperate including the last on a Hail Mary on the last play of the game.

You are talking about the #3 total offense in the country right? If that’s old fashioned I’ll take it.

Yes. Brennan played bad against the only decent defense he played all year.
