First off, God Speed to your wife and you as well, prayers for a full recovery.

That said, what are you talking about? Breast Cancer Awareness is at an all time high and there is more light shed on the disease now than ever. More money donated, more awareness. You kinda made that seem like nobody cares about humans, just animals. That isn't true.

Maybe this came across as too harsh. I just don't understand why the tragic deaths of chimps and tigers can get so much national attention, but the everyday death of tens of thousands of people from cancer so easily becomes so emotionally mundane.

because individual people are not famous. famous people who get cancer or some other serious, life-threatening illness get plenty of national attention. but, there are thousands of charities, runs, etc for cancer awareness/research, so i'd say the thousands of people who deal with cancer have a great support system nationally. Prayers for your wife, can only imagine what you and your family are dealing with

If a person were born in jail would it make sense to keep them there?

Don't act like majestic cat lovers AND support another captive mascot. Those are opposites.

I feel bad for you. But you are the only one on here saying that people dying from cancer is business as usual. My mother died from it, my aunt died from it, a cousin of mine died at the age of 32 from it, a cousin right now is going through, a cousin last month died from it. Everyone on this board has most likely been touched by it from a friend or relative.

I know Aggies, Tennessee,UGA and MSU fans who are crazy about their mascot. You act like people connected to our school have no connection to this animal. People are connected to their own pets. I guess you have only one place for emotion. That's ok for you but don't trivialize our compassion for that which matters to us just because it doesn't matter to you. I will guarantee you that everyone on hear expressing a feeling of emotion for Mike VI have also had that same emotion and more to someone they know who has cancer or had died from it. You are not the only one who knows cancer or the emotions associated with it so quite frankly your holier than thou, act like everyone else on here is trivial with no problems in their life or don't have a perspective attitude is not needed or wanted. I wish you well in your personal fight but you can go back to the TAM board and act like an idiot over there.

sigh, what do you suppose one would do with a tiger born in captivity? there have been zero tigers, ever, released back into the wild and survive. one big cat has actually ever successfully been reintroduced to the wild, and that was a lion. this has been discussed. don't be dumb
