The most recent Mike died of cancer, in a controlled medical environment and he passed away peacefully. Do you think he would have died "better" had he been free? There was a photo in the local paper showing his trip by a fully staffed ambulance to the biggest cancer facility in the state.Led by a convoy of B.R.P.D. officers.

Would you rather live in a cage or be free to roam where you wanted???

Its a stupid assessment.

But yes, I understand this Tiger is very well taken care of and probably couldnt survive in the wild.

Its all good, but being free is ALWAYS "better"

That's a nice concept and all, but this isn't 1880. People are encroaching on the tiger's natural habitats and that will only worsen.

And please note, this isn't just any animal... it's not like a gray squirrel that can integrate into human areas. I't not like deer, that can survive fairly harmlessly in areas near to human areas. It's an animal that covers a broad area, that will actively hunt, kill and eat a human.

The choice we're probably going to see in a couple lifetimes is to keep these animals in captivity (oh, the horror), or to read about them on extinction lists. People are going to eliminate their areas.

If you are around someone who is against LSU having a tiger, you can let them know the other option is euthanasia. The tiger isn’t removed from the wild and brought to LSUs campus so it’s a stupid arse argument to begin with

Idiots want to "set him free!!1!" not realizing that he's been bred in captivity, and it would be cruel to put him out in the wild.

He's currently in a certified sanctuary, that's why he doesn't go to games anymore, it was in the terms of certification. And he has the benefit of a great vet school.

Look just get rid of the tiger. Take that sweet enclosure outside the stadium and drop in a swamp hut and let Coach O make it his personal office. Add a donkey for theme and start a charity where kids can have their picture made with Shrek on game day for $5.

I remember they had thermometer showing the funds raised for it.

He is roaming wider and more free than he was before. If he's released into the wild, his life expectancy immediately drops.

Mike’s habitat cost over four million to build, then had a 1.5 million renovation...
He has his personal vet.
He is loved, not abused.

I wonder if that's the same Rebecca Gerber we used to tag team doggy style for entertainment in the freshman dorms.

LSU friends, I know this has been discussed before ... but I see the topic of your mascot is back in the news this week.
