Doubts?

You don't just flip a switch and fix Mett's problems. He still seems a little overwhelmed at times and has nobody to throw to. He's gotta be able to hit a few passes to keep things moving, but LSU wants to make those situations as few as possible.

So much fail. I thought about this for about a second.

Ask Auburn fans in 2008 if LSU lost in spite of their QB when we took ownership of the plains.

I agree that LSU has ability to pound the ball. I also think that is a recipe for success against most teams.

Pound the ball. Control the clock. Keep their defense on the field. Rotate in fresh backs. Make the opposing defense eventually just quit.

The real problem with that philosophy is that Alabama is one of the only teams in the nation with enough depth to keep from wearing down against an attack like that. LSU may try to pound it, but Alabama won't wear down. So, this game will be very unlike other games where the runs just keep getting longer and longer, and the backs start to break more and more tackles.

In the 1st half, we stopped them completely. I understand that TOP created a war of attrition than LSU's stop troops ultimately lost, but LSU was stoning UF early. Say what you like, but LB injuries hurt us as well as TOP. They scored two TD's and ran it down our throats. That's what happens when you possess the ball an entire quarter more than your opponent.

There's truth in what you say, but there's also context that's missing in that broad brush you're paining with.

When have you seen them play the LSU Defense? Are you HONESTLY of the opinion that our Front 7 is weaker than last year? I've got some oceanfront property to sell you in Montgomery if so.

Agree with you. Completely in fact. I think the way LSU will block and the way Bama reacts may have more to do with our success than the theory that we want to wear them down. I think Bama has the athletes, but the scheme is somewhat innovative that we're using when we run it. Creates cutback lanes if our backs run with vision. We shall see.

Call me crazy, but I think Alabama's best defense against LSU is to run base 3-4 w/little to no pressure.

I expect another game as last November. I only hope it is not like the 2009 florida game.

LSU doesn't really need Mett to beat Bama, I believe the Tigers will win it on the ground.

That seems to be something no one is talking about, the running game.

Exactly.

The formula of ball control is how you have to play to beat Bama, but you can't do it just with the running game. LSU has to throw to move the chains and keep Bama from just stacking the box. With Nick Saban's 3-4 type attack, Bama generally has bigger linebackers. They get those big bodies attacking and it's nearly impossible to run right at them. LSU has to keep them honest.

Short fields from turnovers would also be helpful, but Bama is really stingy in the "helping the other team" department.

I agree. Alabama's base defense is build to stop LSU's offense, especially one that doesn't pass well.

Plug the middle with huge D-linemen, let the linebackers flow to the football. One safety in run support (Vinnie) to cover the middle of the field and protect against cutbacks

21-0 against the best LSU defense ever

(that was too easy)

Do you think the UF OLine is better than the Bama OL?

This is false. LSU will NOT beat Alabama if Mett throws for only 98 yards like he did against A&M.

They might win it on the ground, but LSU has to prove they can pass in order to really get the running game going.

(I hate that malapropism, "untracked", it doesn't make any sense at all, but people still insist on using it.)

LSU is not going to rely on Mett to win this game. We'll pass the ball a few times sure, but unless a light switches on for Mett, we are going with the running game.

We are going to continue to pound the ball with our 4 RBs. The good news for LSU is that two true freshmen on the OLine have been playing better since the UF game. The bad news is that we have 2 true freshman and a sophmore on the OLine.

LSU's biggest weapon is Jeremy Hill.

He has worn down defenses in the 4th quarter and put both the South Carolina and Texas A&M games away in the 4th quarter after abysmal passing performances by Mett. He is a receiving threat out of the backfield and can block in pass protection. We'll see how he does against Bama.

It's really ashame LSU Offense has such a pitiful passing attack, because the running game is incredible.

Like I've said earlier...Mett has just missed on a few big pass plays.

Maybe this is the week he doesn't miss.
