It is all about how the ? was asked. If they had asked Cam, who would have the advantage between he and GMac, running a spread type offense and Cam answered he would, I don't think I would have a problem with that, hell it would be the truth. And we all know the "Truth Will Set You Free"

Cam Newton is here to let all of you know that Cam Newton is not cocky at all

Cam Newton believes that Cam Newton is an icon and an entertainer and all of you are just jealous of Cam Newton. Cam Newton is gonna take his ball and go home now.

No, it doesn't. Read my earlier post, I think the ginger is correct in his self assessment.

Meh, a lot of us wish they'd hold off on the statue until he retires but if Tubs came here and won a title he'd get a statue. Its just what we do, although we certainly do idolize our coaches around here.

I'm just making a general point here, and in a way sticking up for Cam. If you're worshiped every Saturday by 90,000 Auburn grads who act like teenage girls at a Justin Beiber concert, how could you not think of yourself as an icon?

This isn't just related to Cam. People get mad about Lebron being so egotistical when all his life he's been told how great he is. Its just odd to me, we worship these kids and then get upset when they act egotistical.

Well, he is right. He's played in a pro-style offense and can read defenses. He is also smarter and more ethical than Cam.

Nothing to dispute there.

Good point. We tell them they are great from the get go, give them special treatment ect. Some of them can handle it better than others. I honestly think McElroy is a good kid, and will do well in the future.

He also has a better deer in the headlights look than Cam does.

and that he’s better than Newton at reading defenses.

TRUE

“I think with my experience in the pro-style offense, my ability to drop back from under center, make checks from the line of scrimmage without looking at the sideline, all of those things play in my corner as far as being very prepared to make the transition to the next level.”

TRUE

What exactly are you taking issue with?

I don't know what NFL games you are watching on your TV but other than the formation they line up in I see very little pro style in Bama's offense. It is a lot more pro style than what Gus runs but that isn't saying much. When you run the ball 60% of the time and your bread and butter passing plays are the short cross and 10 variations of the screen pass a pro style offense you have not.

Its admirable when athletes (or any public figures really) are told how great they are their whole lives and still manage to stay legitimately humble but its not exactly regular human nature for most people.

That doesn't mean people who refer to themselves as icons aren't a bit creepy but its understandable in a way And in what world is Cam Newton not an Auburn icon? Of course he is. In what world is he not an entertainer? Of course he's an entertainer and he did accomplish more in one year than most college football players do in 4. It was a little cringeworthy to hear him say it but it wasn't like he was just making shite up.

What McElroy said is true. And he didn't call himself an icon in the process.

pro style in

In this interview "McElroy says he has an advantage over Newton because he has much more experience playing in a pro-style offense"

Of note for the Niners, McElroy described his offense at Alabama as a “West Coast system for the most part,” although he joked that tightly wound Tide coach Nick Saban would probably “kill him” for describing it in such terms. (Not sure what Saban has against the WCO).

So which on is it? Are they the same? Does the West Coast Offense prepare him?

What McElroy said is stupid. He is physically not capable of playing in the NFL. He cannot make the plays necessary.

He was .3 faster in the 40 than Tom Brady. It's all about where he ends up at and how much he can develop with a team.
