Keep in mind we signed a top 5 class right before Like took over. The amount of talent we had on offense last year that we squandered is sickening.

The issue is a complete lack of talent. I’ll let you figure out who made those evaluations.

The scholly reductions impacted the OL. Matt chose to only sign 1 OL in the 2017 class because of it. We signed 8 last year.

Just posted this on the Coaching change boards but wanted to post it hear as well.
I went and looked back at the OM board and went a few years back. Found multiple "Fire Matt Luke" threads. And came across this post that made me laugh

Fans don’t always know what the hell they are talking about. This board thought ED O sucked, UF fans bragged about how good McElwain was (and during his 1 good year Muschamp), Cheney was gonna fail at UGA but viewed as a saviour at UT

Perhaps, but it was a consistent theme with us for 5 years. In fact we had a lone Luke defender on the board named doresrule and a running joke was that he actually was Matt Luke

For the entirety of the time Mike Bobo was at UGA #FireBobo was a theme. Now tons of fans want him back, he’s being viewed as a “coup” for SC.
People don’t ever consider time/place/other externalities when viewing anything. It’s the human condition to try to simplify problems into easy answers, when they are almost always more complex. Matt Luke could have sucked as your OL coach and he could be the best hire for us and do a great job. One doesn’t preclude the other. Past failure doesn’t guarantee future failure anymore than past success guarantees success. Luke will help us keep our 5 OL recruits (or most I hope) and he will have one of the most talented OL rooms in the country to work with..

He may go to UG and be successful who knows. I more or less posted it to prove that we truly were wanting him fired while he was OLC. And not us just running our mouths claiming it was the situation.

In all honesty he will probably be serviceable for y’all. We are just super traumatized by his presence and it is likely skewing our opinions.
We did want to be honest about our feelings towards him though from his OL days, though some of those problems were due to scheme and talent issues.

He was an OL coach under Cutcliffe at UT and Duke...Cutt wouldn't have taken him if he didn't think he was very good coaching the OL. That is a pretty good endorsement.

It's a good hire. Wouldn't say he is better than Pittman, think he is the next tier down though for sure.
