Better recruiter than coach. Georgia’s scheme is probably more of what he likes to teach though.

He really only signed 2 guys who were highly touted - Greg Little and Bryce Mathews. Mathews was a bust.
Chris Kiffin recruited Laremy Tunsil.

I wish him nothing but the highest success in his career
I don’t see that being a reality for him because of his coaching skill, but he’s a good genuine dude

Good hire, solid recruiter. Was not head coach material. Georgia needs a QB tho.

I do vividly remember Ole Miss' running issues, but from the outside I was never sure if that was coaching based or talent based.
I think that was mainly due to Freeze's offensive scheme. I can't really think of many OLineman that he transformed during his tenure at OM. If OLine recruits come in ready to go then yall will be fine. I don't think he can do anything with a project type of recruit.
All the best. Hope he does well.

It seems like a former HC coming ot be a position coach isn't too bad
I think the problem is that Luke wasn't even a very good OL coach. In a nutshell, yes it's typically not a bad hire to have a former HC as an assistant. But Luke wasn't even all that great in that role at Tennessee or Ole Miss.

Chris Kiffin’s irresistible couch sealed the deal. Laremy never had such a good night’s sleep in his life.

I’m not going to pretend that I am well versed in the available high quality O line coaches, but we are not kidding that we all wanted him fired as the O line coach. Our line was dreadful the entire time Freeze was here. We absolutely could not run the ball. The numbers of sacks allowed wasn’t atrocious, but it’s because we got rid of the ball so quickly. Line immediately improved once he was promoted to head coach rather than OL. Probably the only unit on our team that improved.
He also looks like a sister fricking dipshit, so there’s that as well.
Why is it that Kirby's staff is in a constant state of decline, UGA fans? His oC, his DC, now his OL coach- all got worse with the new hires.

When you have some of the best, if not the best (Pittman) assistants in the game on your staff and they leave for promotions, it's really hard to hire someone better. That's just math.

The OL play this year was worse than it ever was under Freeze.

Defense improved under the new DC

This is correct, on the O line this season at least
Luke has been here since 2012 and all O lines have sucked, even with first round draft picks

uh, what? When you have great coaches they're going to get interest for bigger jobs (ie, position coach to head coach)

His oC
was offered double the money and we replaced him wiht someone that runs the same system. They are interchangeable.

his DC was offered a head coach gig. Our defense this year is better than any year under tucker, FWIW

pittman is literally the best OL coach in america. There is no one we could have hired that wouldn't be a downgrade.

I remember as well. We always joked and sadly it was always true. If we got 2nd/3rd or 4th and 1 we absolutely were not converting by running it.

Refusing to do anything but run from the shotgun in those situations didn’t help

During the good years, the O-line was our weakest unit. Guess who was coaching them?

but our entire team starting sucking then.
That had nothing to dow ith limited scholarships and bowl bans, right?
They haired Luke as a cheap way to warm the seas until you came off probation...then fired him to hire somebody once off probation. I actually think he did alright as your head coach considering the circumstances he was under.

A lot of the running game issues were schematic under Freeze. A ton of his run game relied on QB being a running threat and after Bo’s labrum injury, he was scared to run the QB.
No coincidence that our best offensive outings in conference were also some of Chad’s top rushing performances.
