It's always about the money....always. We'll get to 9 sooner rather than later. But I do agree with Paul F- an 8 game SEC slate almost locks 3-4 SEC teams in the CFP.

I mean this honestly, not trying to be a jerk: College football will 100% be better off once Saban retires and is out of the picture. For a lot of reasons.
Now, If I'm an Alabama fan, I want him to coach for as long as possible, provided he maintains his current level or higher. But you folks need to be honest with yourselves. You know I'm right.

Why would ESPN pay more for 9 conference games?
With a 16 team SEC and an 8 conference game schedule (plus 4 ooc), there are 128 games per regular season involving SEC teams. But with a 9 conference schedule (plus 3 ooc), there are 120 games involving SEC teams.
Some of the additional conference games might be more compelling, but it's 8 fewer games for ESPN to broadcast.

or some of us actually went out and scheduled quality P5 opponents in upcoming years and don't want to back out of those deals.
sorry but no SEC school wants to play 9 SEC games and 2 P5 OOC teams

Why are we in such a hurry to give all SEC teams another loss?

You're gonna have to walk me through the math on this one...

16 teams * 8 conference games = 128. But since each team is playing each other, it's only half = 64 conference games.
16 teams * 4 ooc games = 64.
64 conference + 64 ooc = 128.
16 teams * 9 conference games = 144. But since each team is playing each other, it's only half = 72 conference games.
16 teams * 3 ooc games = 48.
72 conference + 48 ooc = 120.
16 teams * 4 ooc games = 64.
64 conference + 64 ooc = 128.

72 conference + 48 ooc = 120.

I personally favor 9 SEC games, but the final decision should be made with two criteria IMO. (1) What gets us the most $$$ we can get. (2) What is best for the least competitive football programs in the conference.
The SEC continues to produce championship contenders playing just 8 SEC games every year. There is no competitive reason to go to 9 at least as far as producing national contenders is concerned.

Quality > Quantity
Why would someone pay $1000 for a bottle of Pappy when they could get 100 bottles of Rouses brand whiskey for the same price?

CFB wont be better.
CFB is dying in front of our eyes as it turns into a regional minor league sport full of paid free agents rapidly destroying itself trying to maximize short term profits at the expense of long term sustainability.

Bama has FSU and Wisconsin on the schedule in 25 as 2 of the first 3 games.

16 teams is the opposite of quality.
16 teams is the pure definition of quantity.
Only 4 SEC teams had a winning conference record last season.
So even if you are looking at Alabama as a quality opponent... they have a 1/3 chance of playing a terrible opponent. And a 1/2 chance of playing a mediocre opponent.
If 1/3 conference teams are really good, you have a 11% chance that we are watching 2 really good teams.
And the SEC isn't pairing up these matchups (versus playing out of conference games where UGA is pairing up with Clemson, Notre Dame, FSU, Louisville, Ohio State as our 2nd and 3rd OOC games per season).
The SEC is just alternating in order.
It isn't better scheduling.
It is "more of the same" which isn't better than each AD cherry picking a P5 opponent that the fans get excited about.
You think Bama fans get excited about Vandy, Miss St, Ole Miss, Mizzou, Arkansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, etc?

Coach Satan, er, Saban has grown into a scaredy cat these days, jumping back from severe opposition deemed too much of a threat to his dominion.

Ark got UGA Tenn and Fla Bama got UK Mizzou and UGA How is that fair?
Tennessee was 3-7 that year and lost to UK by 4 touchdowns. Not your best argument. Arkansas’s cross division opponents won 18 SEC games and Bama’s won 16. Mizzou beat Arkansas that year as well. Bama played and beat Florida in December a week after prison raping LSU
Y’all just love to cry about Bama if the deck isn’t entirely and obviously stacked against them. It’s a fascist mindset.

No but UGA voted for 9 games and they're actually playing 2 P5 OOC.
