In this metric:

% of Passing yds attributed to yds after the catch - SEC
1. Bryce Young (BAMA) - 62.1%
2. Luke Doty (SCAR) - 62.1%
3. Connor Bazelak (MIZ) - 58.5%
4. Will Rogers (MST) - 56.8%
5. Hendon Hooker (TEN) - 56.2%
6. Matt Corral (OM) - 54.8%
(min. 75 att)

Young's 62.1% is the 6th highest rate in the nation

Last 5 Heisman-Winning QBs
2019 Joe Burrow – 45.7%
2018 Kyler Murray – 48.1%
2017 Baker Mayfield – 50.2%
2016 Lamar Jackson – 44.9%
2014 Marcus Mariota – 51.3%

Young's heavy dependence on receivers making plays for him to boost his numbers is why he won't win the Heisman. Voters understand this.

On the flip side, players like Caleb Williams (42% - tho a small sample) and CJ Stroud (45%) make their own stats.

And Corral missing the game tomorrow, losing another game and not being featured on conference championship Saturday before voting will be the reason he loses.

Plus Heisman voters won't dig deep into the stats enough to look at yards after catch.

And will be limited or might get hurt worse if he's already nursing an injury.

He might win be default because QB play is down amongst the playoff contenders, and in the playoff era, only one player has won the Heisman without being on a playoff team.

That said I don’t think Young has been Heisman worthy to date. I like him, but his deep ball isn’t there yet hence the OP’s stat.

It is more about Heisman moments and how they perform in their biggest games.

He is a great talent.

But, missing a game will hurt. And, his game to have that Heisman moment so far was @Bama and it was 213 yds passing, 3 yds rushing and a single passing and rushing TD that doesn't jump off the page.

He'll need to really seperate himself to win it without being on a truly competitive team or with a real Heisman moment against a solid team

I definitely feel corral is more valuable but he needs bama to lose again to have a chance. Not sure id rank young’s season anywhere near what tua and Mac did so would be strange to see him be the bama qb to win.

Sounds reasonable. Sometimes winners are more products of a mediocre field. I will say that I didn’t think he would be as poised on the field as he is. I also heard him in an interview and was impressed by his thoughtful responses.

Uh no. He's been great this year for his experience and our offense starting over around him, but he's not winning the Heisman (unless he blows things up down the stretch).

Not 0laying a half season he isn't. That would be worse than griffins second Heisman.
