Really the big 12 needs to think about grabbing some of the Florida, Carolina and Virginia schools if they want to survive long term. They have a lot of semi decent programs that are going to be locked out of major college football once the big ten and sec break away.

It will be better for the sport if the big 12 teams make it into the super league so we have ~60 teams instead of the ~40 that will be part of the big 10/sec super league.

LMAO - that pretentious conglomerate is gonna have to eat their pride and bring in some non AAU schools if they think they're pulling from Dixie -

Tech/Emory in Atlanta
Duke
Chapel Hill - already pushing for SEC invitation
Tulane
South Florida - yeah - USF
UMiami - big whoop
Tulane
Vanderbilt - ain't leaving the SEC

they can have Arizona ASU Colorado - they already passed on Stanford and Cal - because why else didn't the get the invite when the SoCal schools did ???

Southeastern Conference doesn't need to even concern themselves with what that yankee skidmark of a conference is doing - our heritage and rivalries are why the entire nation tunes in to SEC football

when was the last time anyone Southerner said "Ima sit down and watch a big1t9en game" that didn't involve a SEC school - ? - never -

The only way teams get dropped is if a group of teams decides to break off and join a group of teams from other leagues to form some sort of super league. That might be appealing for football, but for the other sports, it wouldn’t make sense.

The SEC and Big Ten have the biggest brands locked up. I just don’t see ESPN being in a hurry to rip up our current contract and pay more money pro rata for adding any ACC school you care to name. If they aren’t doing that for Texas and OU, they certainly aren’t doing that for UNC, FSU, or anyone else. And, I don’t see those schools making much of a difference in the pro rata revenue under the next contract when that comes up in 2034. Simply having a bigger gross revenue for the conference as a whole because you’ve added more teams doesn’t help the existing members.

SEC needs to add FSU and Ga Tech, and one school from NC & VA. Really don’t care for Clemson / Miami, although they are undoubtedly good programs

Yes there is, the pace at which we make $ in comparison to the B10.

That has nothing to do with the number of teams.

Conference affiliation means absolutely nothing anymore. Add it to the pile of things college football has killed the past decade.

I hear what you are saying, and from a tradition standpoint, I get it. But, you are wrong overall because it is the conferences that negotiate the television contracts and that run the CFP. Find yourself in the wrong conference and it can be impossible to keep up financially with the big dogs.

That's when the real fun begins, if the B10 and SEC start kicking schools out.

There will be further shifts in what drives CFB in the days/years ahead, however the Big 756374 can add, but their primary footprint will always be rust belt. Shifting demographics favor the SEC footprint for the foresseable future. If I’m SEC commish, I go at NC/VA schools. That’s the missing piece for this conference if this land grab continues.

Then why does each big school make $80M / yr and each SEC school makes $68M?

That’s probably how you break ND. Refuse to schedule them.

Notre Dame will not budge on independence

I keep telling people this but everyone seems to think they want to join their conference. ND loves to be an independent. Even still, they play a better schedule than most B1G programs.

Having been up there and taken the tour and quizzed the tour guide on this, I concluded that independence is part of what they believe is their identity. The guide explained that it reaches back to why ND was founded in the first place - Catholics were excluded from the Ivy League schools (most if not all with strong Protestant roots) and ND was founded to provide Catholic students with an elite college education. Basically, “frick you, we will do it ourselves.” That carried over to football independence and was probably further cured by some former conference attitudes towards religious institutions. I think the B1G used to have some strong anti-Catholic vibes (which likely fuels a lot of the rivalries).

They tried to join the Big10 but Michigan black balled them. Their hatred for Michigan is very real and the very reason why they will never join a conference with Michigan in it.

one conference commissioner opened up TV contract negotiations to the entire market - while Greg Sankey worked exclusively with an existing partner - SEC's most recent TV deal was not given the opportunity to get into a bidding war and end up with an over-inflated deal as the other conference did -

case in point - CBS way over paid the big2t8en for 3rd & 4th choice terrible ratings games that nobody will watch because it did not want to get shut out of CFB Saturdays after Fox and NBC out-maneuvered them - and the real winner was that conference -

Sankey limited what an open market could deliver for the SEC - the difference in $$$ is a result of that - and not which conference - TOP TO BOTTOM - is a better ratings product -

Sankey's not a mercenary - and that's why we ended up with the $$$ disparagement that exists -
