Because Ohio State plays in the Big Ten which is a cakewalk compared to a 9 game SEC schedule. They will be able to recover from early season loss by playing easier teams the rest of way.
So why would 'Bama want to cancel a cakewalk? One that lends prestige?

Ohio State is a Big Ten team.
So the Big Ten sucks, but you're afraid to play Ohio State a Big Ten team?
FYI, The Big Ten won the last two National Titles, but they suck?
Yeah, that makes sense

I hate it but it’s the smart choice. There is no reason to play hard OOC games anymore. Especially when the idiots on the playoff committee rewards teams like Tulane and JMU for playing nobody. All schools need to follow.

Ohio State is easy... OU has planted our flag at their midfield.....Uwe.

You are a dumbass alter not worth bothering with.

This is why you schedule Ohio State.

If y’all cancel those games I don’t want to hear y’all say shite about Ohio State’s schedule ever again lol.
Anyways I just hope the committee would change their stance on team’s scheduling games like this so we can continue to get hyped up non conference games in the beginning of the season otherwise they’ll discourage teams from doing that and we’ll have to wait until the end the playoffs to get those higher caliber games.
Also I think it would be cool if there was a Big Ten Vs SEC challenge in the beginning of the year kinda like they have in college basketball, It would force every team in the conference to schedule those games not just a few. That would be dope as hell along with being a little more fair.
Maybe even cut down conference games so there could be a Big Ten vs SEC vs ACC vs Big XII challenge, so instead of 9 conference games there would be 6 conference games and we would get a much clearer picture on which conference is the best during the season.

With a 9 game SEC schedule it’s easy to see why these games will be dropped. Ohio st has maybe 2 tough games a year, the SEC isn’t like that but you already know that.
It’s going to come to point to where Notre Dame will have to join a conference or play a lower division schedule because no big schools are going to be willing to accommodate them. The landscape is changing. The big whatever sucks overall.

The number one criteria still used to rank teams is # of losses.
As long as that's true you're foolish to play any difficult games you don't have to.

If the committee and CFB at large want to see those games played then we need to reward SOS and stop just counting wins and losses like an AP voter.
100% agree. If the goal is to get the 12 BEST teams in, these games would remain and matter. If the goal is to get THEIR 12 teams in, these games will go away and only weakening the CFB season.

Don't blame them one bit. This season Indiana proved that risk aversion is the way to go when they canceled all their P4 out of conference games.

Committee is obsessed with records over strength. Playing a real team out of conference, in this absurd age, is terrible scheduling.
Yep schedule a P4 OOC like Purdue or Michigan State.

You had a win over Georgia?

Ohio state is like 140-14 the past 20 years at home with most of those loses coming against Michigan.
They are defending champs and playing for another this year. Not saying they are unbeatable but at home it’s an unnecessary game to risk
