He probably could win more there. Hmmmmm??

Oh he's gone.

Soon an LSU fan or Arkansas fan will confirm that Lane in leaving.

You can start the celebration pup.

The dude simply can't step away when it's time.

Yes, I know the press releases in 2012-13 said "Mack Brown steps down as head coach at Texas", but the reality is that was his buddy AD (Deloss Dodds) giving him a soft kick to the arse.

Edit- He's the same age as Saban so won't end up on any coaching wish lists.

Sounds like they asked him to retire. He said no and announced he was coming back next year. UNC said no thanks.

UNC has been good to Mack. They hired him back after he walked on them. So I don't think there should be any hard feelings.

Very true. I do think he's kind of "aged out" of the game though.

Brown did something his first stint at UNC that I always though was brilliant. At the time NC State and even Duke and Wake would get a lot of top NC recruits. So when Brown took the UNC job he hired a couple of high school coaches of the in-state teams with the most talent as assistants at UNC. When he'd have openings he'd occasionally repeat the process.

Thought it was an inventive recruiting method in a state with a lot of teams (both in-state and out of state) vying for talent.

Only really noticed it because he hired the HC from the high school my brother went to at the time. Ended up landing about 5-6 really good recruits from that school over the next couple of years, including 3 productive OL (the guy was hired as an OL coach I think).

That kind of game holds less sway in today's recruiting though. Very smart move at the time.
You are 100% correct, he did the same at Texas.

He was never a fantastic X's and 0's type coach, but he knew how to recruit to a level his teams out talented everyone. But as you mentioned that strategy doesn't work nearly as well in the age of trainers, NIL agents and high school coaches just generally having less influence over where their players choose at the next level.

JFC, I had forgotten about that stunt. They really did treat him like royalty there.

This pup couldn't give two shits who your coach is. Just commenting on the possibilities. He has proven he can't win big in the SEC. Might have a better shot in the weak arse ACC.

Coach O would be active if anyone thought he had anything to do with his National Championship.

How long before Schumann gets the HC offer that he wants?

He is an Alabama grad right? I wonder if Ole Miss would make a run at him?

I think he's looking to take the same sort of path as Kirby Smart or Dan Lanning. He's looking to go right to a pretty highly rated job, not prove himself at a lower tier team then move up.

Not sure Ole Miss would be on his list.

Florida or LSU? Sure. If FSU gets a soft landing spot in the SEC or Big 10 he could take that job when it opens up. Auburn as well.

But Mizzou/Ole Miss/SC/UNC/UK/Arkansas? Probably not. Those programs don't have the built in talent advantages that those other places do.

Word is the North Carolina job is going to be a hot commodity particularly among Power Four coaches.

Any SEC HC's or assistants that might be in line for the UNC job?

List I saw just had Schumann from the SEC on it. Some other names included Chadwell at Liberty, Barry Odom at UNLV, and Arthur Smith who is the Steelers OC who played OL at UNC and apparently has some traction with key people in Chapel Hill.

Chadwell would be a great hire for them. Not sure about any of the others.
