If this is true, hopefully the NCAA burrows (honey! How do you spell “buries”) Florida for whatever the real reason is.

that's an interesting comment

a deal like this is sure to get the attention of NCAA investigators; especially with the issues that we know about going on...

So, you guys fricked your coach out of $8 million. And you think this will help you in your next round of contract negotiations?

More than likely agreed to cut out other buyout provisions like offset language

Now, how they supposed to prove that he made it up? I’d have taken the 12 and told them thanks for the retirement plan.

No clue. But I know Sexton isn't taking 1/3 a buyout if UF didn't have a serious case. It's common sense. If Mac only takes 4 million, UF clearly has a real case and Sexton knows fighting it is a bad idea.

He also wants to get something and say listen it didn't work and we didn't want to old university hostage. They made concession on future income and it was a cleaner deal.

It hasn't. People have friends. Mine has a name. I named him in the thread. I quoted my source. Decent source too.

Fired with cause. It is a thing. And clearly by the low end money buyout, He knows he broke that.

If you’re saying his “death threats” comment was cause, I’m not buying it. UF would have to prove he lied in lawsuit, which would be impossible. He wouldn’t have to prove he told the truth. Only way Sexton would take this deal is if the 4 mil is unconditional without offsets and he knows McElwain will be getting paid by someone else next year. In that case, it’s a good deal. Otherwise he’d have been working for free.

Why would you take 8 million less immediately? Makes no sense for an agent. Knowing or not, you make UF pay the full amount unless UF has serious reason. Death threats could be the cause, or the credit card thing. Who knows. All I know is he went from tepid hot seat to fired in a week after those comments, and his agent took 8 million less. So seems like Mac screwed up.

I wonder if Butters wife is busting his balls like mine would mine

Wait so you are just taking $4 when they owed you $12? I don't get it...

Well you know with credit card deal and death threat claim..

But you said those weren't your fault.

Well yeah but...

If it’s true, it’s probably an unconditional $4M regardless of McElwain’s future earnings.

If Mac gets $4M unconditional, that's not bad under the circumstances. He screwed up with the death threats stuff.

A quick, clean cutting of ties is best for both sides. Otherwise, a legal battle could drag on for years, a la Mike Leach vs Texas Tech.

There might be another angle on this. McElwain might have thought the job sucked big dongs, and this was the easiest way to get out of it and walk away. With some money to boot.

Just a hunch, but maybe that death threat story was cooked up in collusion with someone at Florida, since they wanted to dump him, and he wanted to be dumped.

He should have held out for the entire 13 million buyout. How could they possibly prove no death threats were ever made. Once again Mac is demonstrating that his decision making, like his teeth, leaves something to be desired.

Heck...I’ll tell the UF AD I made the death threats for $1,000,000 of your buyout.

I don't doubt the death threats. PETA nutjobs don't mess around. They don't care about facts.

Regarding the settlement, this is probably the cleanest/fastest thing for both parties.

McElwain is probably miserable there. Hell... 2 coaches ago, the guy just up and left claiming that he missed his family (but he didn't take any actions to spend time with his family) Again... it is gainesville. Miserable.

They wouldn't use death threats, something that is actually likely to occur, in this instance.

Guarantee he mentioned the death threats hoping to get some pity/leeway from the AD, and when they reacted by calling him a liar, questioning the claims, asking for proof, etc he felt like they didn't support him and have his back. The AD was probably pissed he made these unfounded claims and damaged the university's reputation, and the relationship (which was already on the rocks) deteriorated beyond repair from there.

I think he's probably made some false claims like this or had other drama in the same vein that we haven't heard about and the AD called his bluff this time. Mixed with all the player suspensions and who knows how Mac acted behind the scenes there, it just smells of an AD not trusting/believing in their coach and a sour relationship.

Mac, not wanting all this mudslinging and other negative behind the scenes stuff to come out, accepted whatever buyout he could land without a fight.

bullshite...if he drags this thing out in court he gets a bigger settlement and embarrasses UF and hinders their coaching search.Unlike the UF president,McElwain did the classy thing
