How about Lane goes to Carter and says he wants to go to Florida (the school that always made the most sense personally/professionally for him)…... But he doesn’t want to bail on the Ole Miss team unless they miss the playoffs. So a win Friday and he stays. A loss and he goes to Florida……technically nobody would know where he’s going yet

LSU is the 3rd team in negotiations to drive up the price. Sexton plays along because of the whole governor thing and to max out his earnings.

Only buddies Carter and Kiffin know what’s really happening. Ole Miss and Carter play along because they have no other choice and will collapse if Kiffin leaves. They put the players through this because if you can’t handle this pressure/distraction then you can’t handle the playoffs. They know all will be forgiven with the fans if he stays. Plus if he leaves for Florida there will be less blowback than LSU

Ole Miss would be foolish to dive this deep into another schools affairs as it would be a massive distraction from the CFB playoffs. As it has been already for the players. Doubt they do this purposefully at all.
