I take it that there still isn’t faith in letting Ensminger call the offense by himself. I was told Ensminger called all of the plays anyway and LSU wouldn’t miss a beat with just him.

what baffles me.......he was hired to be the PCG for an offense he doesn't run. E has run it for one year.
ETA Like an LSU fan stated earlier.....why not go out and get a Payton guy?
I kind of figured they'd started running the college version of the Saints offense and would keep kind of being the feeder system for it - hire a junior member of Payton's offensive staff that he recommended, that guy has a few good years and goes back to the NFL, rinse repeat. Seemed like a pretty damn scary proposition, IMHO.
I'm sure Linehan is a solid coach who is probably a good QB coach and a professional, it was just kind of unexpected.

Yeah I remember him leading an offense with Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper and Zeke Elliott to one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Yesh, scrapping the bottom of the barrel here
Well, I suppose it’s a good thing he’s not leading the offense, but rather a passing game coordinator.

You people are just ridiculous human beings sometimes.

quote:Ensminger will be running the 2019 Brady Offense at LSU in 2020.
I’d rather have a Brady from a successful scheme over a Linehan who does nothing special.
We're not installing a brand new Linehan Offense. Linehan is there to add just a little bit more spice to the Tiger Gumbo.
Nobody in the SEC will be able to stop it again and all you "Small and Meek" troll psychotics are scared to death again. (Or should be)

Wait, LSU fans have been telling me 80% of it was Ensminger.
Here is the thing....Brady was an unknown. Linehan isn't. There is absolutely nothing "innovative" about what Linehan does.
Seems a lot of people are very confused here.
1. Linehan is not being brought in to install anything, Brady was. The offense we have from last year is installed and isn't changing to a new one. Let's get that out the way first.
2. Linehan is bringing in well over a decade experience coaching in the NFL as a OC, PGC and HC as well as over a decade experience coaching in college as WR, QB and OC at various schools.
3. I see anyone only wants to bring up his last year in Dallas, why not most of his other years? I would assume some arent dumb enough to believe he spent 15 years in the NFL as a mostly wildly unsuccessful coach.
In the end, resume wise, this is a big time hire. He's not coming in to install any offense, his job will be assisting Ensminger to call passing plays and help coordinate that part of the offense that was already installed last season. This is not the same type of hire as Brady, they weren't going out trying to find another new offense to put in.
So basically in the end here, LSU gets blasted and laughed at last year for hiring a totally unproven 29 year old NFL assistant coach to bring in and install a new offense and help coach WRs. This year, to replace him, and not do anything other than help coordinate passing plays (not call offensive plays, not install any offense), we bring in a 15 year NFL high level coach with another decade+ experience coaching in college and...once again get laughed at

Doesn't matter. As long as LSU has Ed O and Ensminger they'll be fine. Those two did everything any way

O's comments during the search.
Apparently he thinks Linehan can add some more wrinkles to what they already have.

"We're looking for different ideas," Orgeron said. "We're looking for things that can add to our already great offense."
The ideal candidate, Orgeron said, is someone who either knows LSU's system "very well" or can "teach us something different."
quote:
“The MVP of the whole deal was Steve Ensminger. He never blinked. He knows the offense. He called the majority of the plays. So what I want to do is bring in a passing game coordinator that can help on third down, help in the red zone just like Joe did, expound on our offense. And we’re going to take our time getting the right guy.”

How many years has Ensminger been at LSU?

for an offense, and a passing game scheme, he doesn't use.

Since 2010
2010-2016 = TE Coach
2016 took over as OC when Miles and Cam Cameron got fired
2017 = TE Coach
2018-2019 = OC/QB Coach

Not exactly sure as a position coach but has been full time OC since 2018.
O and E decided to go to a more spread based offense after the 2018 Bama loss.

You really think he hasn't been around the game long enough to see it all and understand a lot of different things/concepts? The Cowboys played the Saints a few times when he was there.
Again, he's also not calling the plays or installing an offense, we have an OC, and we have an offense we like installed. His job is to simply help coordinate the passing game, maybe throw some more wrinkles in here and there we didn't last season.

Ensminger is calling the shots correct?

Gotcha. If this offense is more of Ensminger's idea than anybody, I don't understand why you bring in a PASSING game coordinator when throwing the ball is the focal point of the offense

If it was that easy, every OC would cherry pick the best plays and nobody would ever be anything but successful.
Why has he struggled in the NFL, at various coaching positions, if it is so easy to adapt?
ETA You do know what a PGC does, right?

I mean the quote I posted from O farther up the page explains why he wants one.
Maybe he feels like a guy helping E is more effective than having a full time tight ends coach.

Havent his offenses been in the top 10 basically half the time he's coached?

Another name from the past that gives me chills. This almost makes me feel sorry for some LSU fans. Almost.
