I wouldn't think so.............simply for the fact NFL teams would be lining up for his services if that was the case. From what I understand, he was unemployed last year.

ETA I understand he won't be calling plays. I just think it will be difficult gameplanning a passing game with an O he doesn't use.

Dude was an NFL OC or head coach basically for the last 16 years until last season.

Half with yardage, 6/16 times top ten in scoring:

quote:

Linehan has 13 years of coordinator experience at the NFL level. Along with the Cowboys, he also served in that capacity with the Minnesota Vikings (2002-04), Miami Dolphins (2005) and Detroit Lions (2009-13). He was head coach of the St. Louis Rams from 2006 through 2008.

In those 16 seasons, his offenses ranked inside the top 10 in yardage eight times and the top 10 of scoring on six occasions, per Football Reference.

Yeah I just looked at the years but didn't figure it up. He was a position coach and OC at the collegiate level in the 90's and early 2000s.

I am just messing with you....20 wasn't far off.

ETA I am not sure how many years he was HC? Those years wouldn't reflect his O numbers unless he was the OC too.

Because that’s all we had to go on.

And in fact, Linehan was his OC at Miami.

He was a solid OC in the NFL.

That comparing apples and oranges. Did Linehan win a NC as a college coach, Saban did.

Yeah saw 2002 so said basically the last 20 lol

Was listed as PGC at Dallas in 14 but he led meetings and called plays so was basically OC

Ensminger is calling the shots correct?

Yes, same as last season, Ensminger is still the OC.

The difference this time is Linehan isn't coming in to install a brand new offense, and also isn't even coaching WRs like Brady did.

I think his point is that NFL results dont equal college results. Especially head coach and offensive coordinator vs passing game coordinator

no...but LSU has won 3 (should be 4) with 3 different coaches consecutively. so i think we'll be ok

Why has he struggled in the NFL, at various coaching positions, if it is so easy to adapt?

You do realize he's had more success than not in 15 years in the NFL, right? Otherwise, well, figure it out, he wouldn't have been in the NFL for that long in various high level roles.

It's pretty tough to find many coaches in the NFL that dont have rough seasons here and there. Saban quit the Dolphins because he knew he was about to shite canned the next year. As cut throat as college can be, the NFL will shite you out for being good at your job the majority of the time.

ETA You do know what a PGC does, right?

Well aware, wondering if some of the posters in this thread are aware, I tried spelling it out multiple times. What Linehan is coming in here to do is way less than what we asked of Brady, a guy with literally no real coaching experience

There is a pretty long list of former NFL coaches who point and snicker. Lovie Smith is the first who comes to mind. He has a .500 winning % in the NFL and a .300% in college. Lovie was a HC in the NFL for 12 years, with the Bears, and at TB for two. The truth is, most former NFL coaches who drop down to college don't have a lot of success. They don't have the practice time/film study time with college kids that they have with NFL players. It is two very different cultures.

Y’all are putting way too much stock into this hire the guy is NOT the OC. He’s here to add to the playbook not to call plays. Brady was a different situation, he was far more attached to the offense than not. Scott will be Joe Brady!

"We're looking for different ideas," Orgeron said. "We're looking for things that can add to our already great offense."
The ideal candidate, Orgeron said, is someone who either knows LSU's system "very well" or can "teach us something different."

quote:

“The MVP of the whole deal was Steve Ensminger. He never blinked. He knows the offense. He called the majority of the plays. So what I want to do is bring in a passing game coordinator that can help on third down, help in the red zone just like Joe did, expound on our offense. And we’re going to take our time getting the right guy.”
