Bama clearly won the natty that season given the 21-0 blowout. However I don’t understand how teams can win the national title and not even win their conference. UGA in 2021 and Bama in 2017 and 2011. Winning the conference should be the bare minimum to win their natty

So what does it mean if you shut out the winner of that conference in a national championship game setting?

Don't blame you. Get as far away as you can from the actual field, or this could get really painful.

By any objective measure, LSU is the national champion.

The only silver lining from that beatdown on 1/9/2012 is that we got the college football playoff because of it.

Giving Bama the rematch proved once and for all that the regular season didn't mean anything, as so many college football "purists" try to claim when arguing against a playoff.

It can be both our trophies, we'll just keep them at our house.

Hang the banner. Utk is about to spend a lot of money on their Champions of Life NCs.

That gets messy given the road team victory rate in the series since the 80s. Need a solid and detailed custody plan ironed out

Did the two best teams not end up in the national championship? We barely scraped by them in the regular season, helped by a series of missed field goals on their part. So yes, the playoff did lessen the significance of the regular season.

I actually believe LSU got screwed in 2011.

Bama and LSU split, head-to-head meetings. LSU had to play in Tuscaloosa but never got the advantage of playing at home.

LSU had a far more difficult schedule and won their division and conference.

Should have been LSU-OK State in New Orleans.

Sadly, OK St was screwed by the refs and denied a game winning FG even though anyone with eyes could see the ball crossed between the uprights. the refs gifted Iowa St the win and shut out OK St from getting a shot at the title.

When you get the rematch and lost 21-0, that kind of proves who was the best team .

There should have been a third game at LSU

We played in New Orleans, which is a home game for LSU.

Most certainly isn't a requirement in any other ncaa sport, nor any pro sport I'm aware of. Why just this 1

Meh.

Bama already lost to LSU and Oklahoma State's resume wasn't so drastically different from Bama, in my opinion, to warrant Bama getting a rematch.

Oklahoma St. Strength of Schedule - #4
Bama Strength of Schedule - #5
