The prosposal seems like a good deal for Baton Rouge as a whole, and allows for the River Center to be somewhat repurposed as a Convention Center and smaller venue, while allowing for LSU to be the primary tenant in an improved Arena, which was needed. Southern will most likely have use of the facility as well, if they choose.
The fact that Chauna Banks is against it is probably more of an endorsement than not, as her IQ is probably at or below room temperature.

Ohhhhh you must be talking about Knoxville or Maryville.
There is a lower-income/crime area in every city - including Baton Rouge. Their's is mostly confined in North Baton Rouge, not near the University area, downtown, or central or SE Baton Rouge.

Historically speaking, we are one of the premier basketball programs in the SEC. I believe we are second only to Kentucky.
The past couple years have been an outlier for how basketball typically turns out for us, looking forward to getting back in the tournament for sure starting next year.

Whoever built Bama baseball field needs no say in a new basketball arena. That field is just terrible and its brand new. Ugly and not pleasing to look at on TV.
