What should his achievements be in 3-4 years? NC? SEC?

Is a 8-4 season acceptable in 2-3 years?

There are 8 teams in the SEC that should expect to make a 12 team playoff every season. Obviously not all are but there is no plausible excuse for LSU not to be in the top 10 by championship weekend every season. Anything short of that is a failure. In year one with the portal. Not winning the SEC or a natty but making the field. That is not a huge task for programs with the resources of LSU, UGA, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Texas and Oklahoma. Obviously most of these are going to fail that goal most seasons but that should be the line between an acceptable season and an unacceptable one. Any of those 8 not in the top 10 by December 1 has failed. The portal does not allow for rebuilds….

All of this is spot on. Well-said. Cannot improve on any of it.

Florida doesn’t belong in this list

Top end he is a 10-2 coach at LSU, more regularly 9-3. They have to play a combo of Texas, Alabama, Texas A & M every year and then you have the one unexplainable loss that his team has had every year except 2025. Some years that may be good enough to make the playoffs other years not.

Add to that the circus that follows him around and the gorilla in the room, the Bama job and LSU will have buyers remorse at a high dollar cost within 3 years. Now don't get me wrong the Gators would settle for that.

He will win a natty in 3 years or less at LSU. He’s the best coach in the country and I have said it all along. He was my choice for Alabama HC when Saban stepped down and we hired Les Miles 2.0

Based on how LSU fans are talking, it’s national title every year.

depends on what his other records look like.

had Kelly made the playoff in year 2 with that offense then he would still be the coach

He’ll be worse every season at LSU than he was at Ole Miss this year

Playoffs every year with a grace period for year 0. At least one natty over his tenure.

Something like that.

year one - we play Clemson, UTw, Bama, ATM at home and UTe on the road. that could be 2-3 record right there

year 2 - OU home, UF, UGA, ATM away - 2-2 record, playoff hopeful, but not seeing it yet....

year 3 - UTe, ATM home, Bama, UTw on the road. expectations would be 10-2 floor with a playoff berth

Year 4 - UF, UGA home, OU, ATM on the road. expectations are 10-2 floor with another playoff berth. this could be a hotseat year if no playoff coming in.

I mean ideally if Lane is Lane offensively, and Baker is Baker defensively, this team should be playoff ready year one. This year's LSU offense was one of the worst ive ever seen, but the defense was pretty good. Add a 25 million NIL dump and idk man. Should be one of the 12.

That depends on if he has made the playoffs and been successful otherwise. If we go 10-2 and win a couple of playoff games in year 2 then maybe a slight regression with younger players is acceptable. If he has 3 straight 8-4 seasons, that will be a tougher sell.

I'd say a playoff berth by year 3-4.
