Yup, I was about to come and post the actual rule myself and highlight all the reasons why it was targeting.

A couple other relevant parts of the rule include the bit about launching, White had both his feet off the ground at the moment of impact.

Whether LSU fans want to admit it was targeting or not, there is denying that it was DIRTY, LATE hit. The targeting rule is designed to protect defenseless players. Fitzgerald was already off balance, and falling backwards in mid air by the time White made contact.

It was dirty and White deserves his suspension.

I’d actually rather they uphold the suspension, but it looks like they’re going to overturn it IMO.

Yeah it definitely wasn’t a late hit. No one believes that.

The only question is whether it was targeting or not, and more generally why we have these silly targeting rules.

He threw the ball to avoid the sack. The pressure came from right in front of him. In no way is that defenseless. He knew he was going to get hit, that’s why he threw the ball early.

I think it should be 2 targeting penalties for ejection... or even better come up with a way to account for intent.

Its ridiculous that you can taunt another player or curse out an official or chop block
Someone and not get ejected, but if you sack a QB on a relatively routine play you can get ejected.

I think every fan can agree this needs evaulated, changed and corrected.

Again, no one disagrees with how BS the rule is, but your player put himself in that position and made it at minimum - questionable.

I bet he learned his lesson and I think it's bullshite he gets held out of the next game until 2nd half.

When has that ever happened on a targeting penalty upheld on review?

Thanks for reinforcing our point about LSU fans not understanding a rule. And again...

That wasn't targeting hands hit him in the chest. Facemasks may have bumped in to each other. Not targeting. Just like our hit on the tennessee qb wasn't targeting. This bullshite rule needs to be fixed next year. It's going to ruin games.

IF White was guilty of targeting, then the Gump player who knocked out the Tennessee QB with a MUCH more egregious hit was DAMN sure guilty of targeting. Just more evidence of how Bama gets the benefit of inconsistent enforcement of the rules.

Easy is correct, I didn’t see him leave his feet either, but I had been drinking...

I did see him hit a defenseless player in the head.

You're wrong. It's only for a split second bc the impact with Fitzgerald brings him back down but you can clearly see both his feet off the ground as he dives into Fitzgerald

Of course Bama fans are defending the call. They're scared to play against White.

Different game and different refs.

They didn't call it to frick over LSU though for Alabama's benefit. That's just retarded

I hope they do, but let's say they don't.

I think the White ejection was BS and only reinforces an inconsistent application of a rule that is softening the sport.

That said, the situation raises a question for LSU fans. While, like a plethora of injuries and other things we can't control, is there a little part of you that is happy it was White and not Delpit?

I honestly think White and Delpit are the best LB and S combo in the country, and it's not close. They complement each other well, so it will be interesting to watch how the loss of one affects the play of the other in defensive scheme.

But when White was ejected my initial thought from a fan of having the best players playing in big matchups was "at least it's not Delpit."

White is the unquestioned on-field leader with his presence, direction and example in the middle of the defense. He leads the team in tackles and means a lot more.

But, Delpit is second in tackles, leads in sacks/tfl, and INTs. He seems to have that honey badger ability to always be around or in on a big play at a big time. Simply an incredible playmaker and spark.

Given what Bama and Tua like to do on offense, I think Delpit would be the bigger loss based on his energy, coverage and ball skills for the pass, ability in the run D and pass rush, and ability to steal momentum as a big play magnet.

I may be biased having watched one AA type LB after another get injured over the past couple of years. But, an LSU or Bama reload at those positions. It is that key playmaker/on field general for the secondary that are much harder to find and develop, especially facing an RPO or HUNH team.

Thoughts?
