So do we give a pass when a team declines an invitation to the NIT due to injuries and/or availability but shite on a team for declining a bowl game invite for the same reasons?

He’s never had to worry about the NIT while being here

I think that LSU and USCe made the right decision. But injures and/or losing money is just an excuse to refuse the bid. The real reason why teams refuse NIT bids is because they think that the season is a failure that should not continue after they miss the NCAA.
And I really think that teams that don't go at least 8-4 should refuse bowl bids. However, the conference probably wouldn't allow teams to do so, since the bowl bids are tied into the conference. And even the most minor bowl games get a TV audience, but I don't even remember what channel the NIT games are on. In fact, I don't even remember the last time I watched an NIT game- it's probably been at least 10 years. On the other hand, I always end up watching a few ridiculously minor bowl games between 6-6 MAC and Sun Belt teams that I promised myself ahead of time I wouldn't watch.

The players quit on Coach Mac.

Even with the limited roster, it's hard to imagine that LSU couldn't have used the extra practice and experience for next year.

USC doesn't play in the SEC, but South Carolina does.

I think both would struggle to field a team. I think the most likely issue is enough players have already informed the staff they're portaling, which obviously isn't something the team is going to say in a press release. The teams have a combined 5 SEC wins. I think everyone is ready for the season to be over, not play a game in front of 500 people that doesn't matter

The NIT starts tomorrow. They'd get one practice between now and then. This isn't like a bowl game where you get a month of practice and your EEs also get to participate in that

NIT home games suck. If I remember correctly, they "neutralize" the arena, you have extreme short notice so nobody shows up, and the cost is a joke.

Yep, the paid attendance for LSU's home NIT game last year was 2,210. No one cares about the NIT

Sure, but you guys could have won that first match and gotten some game experience as well.

If they played only the guys who might return next year, they wouldn't win that first game and probably wouldn't win regardless. I think it's best for everyone to end the season. There's a reason 14 teams have already declined bids. If it was beneficial to play, you wouldn't be seeing that

The NIT.
The not invited tournament.

Fair.
Just, trolling aside, it's crazy to see LSU at the bottom of the SEC in basketball. Considering how good the rest of the conference is getting it just feels like you guys could use any leg up you can get.
Of course losing one of next year's players to injury would negate any experience and then some, so yeah... I get it.

I thought they were relegated to the AAC and Memphis and UAB were promoted.

They might have had 6-7 viable players for the NIT this year, and half of those guys are out of eligibility (Carter, Sears, Bailey). It is bleak, need a new coach.

IF ole piss was in the same situation and accepted the NIT bid......
that's called desperation.

It's one of the most depressing environments I can ever remember at Coleman Coliseum (and we even lost the last two first round games I've been to).
On a positive note, there are so few people there you can hear the coaches and players communicating on and off the court, so that's at least somewhat interesting.
