LSU 3rd quarter

Someone who's actually played football or maybe coached it, explain to me what LSU did differently in the third quarter on defense compared to the first half and even somewhat of the fourth quarter.
It looked like they blitched more but I haven't watched enough replay to see if they were blitzing safeties or if it was delayed blitz or what they were doing.
Obviously it seemed to work I assume they were playing in man at that point instead of zone?
What are the dangers of playing that way, I'm assuming they would be if you don't get to the quarterback then you have less coverage but why doesn't every team play like LSU did in the third quarter and why did LSU seemingly go away from it? I would say most of the SEC probably has the athletes to get to the quarterback maybe if they blitz like that, has there ever been a team in college or pro that blitzed in some way shape or form like 75% of the time or is that just not a thing because it would just be too easy to counteract?

i believe 1st half we played soft/off the ball to keep things in front, and watch Trinidad. The first offensive series for y'all looked bleak. but right after that, Trinidad found the soft spots and lit it up.
2nd half was more man initially, with lots a of pressure from varying guys. it worked.....many of us are asking why we backed off of that when we tied it. oh well...move on to next week.

Every single LSU fan is wondering the same thing. Each time we blitzed or played man, Chambliss lost yardage or made a mistake. It's mind boggling why we only did it a little bit. Hoping Lane chewed Blake Baker's arse out for that because it was inexcusable.
Baker has been kinda overrated for a couple years and I'm thinking most LSU fans are seeing that now.

Got the run game going as fatigue began to set in for OM defensive line

So can't every other team that Ole Miss play just follow the exact script that you did in the third quarter if they want to stop Chambliss? I'm assuming there are enough plays in a defensive coordinator's playbook to blitz and disguise blitzes and just play Man the whole game instead of zone?
I would assume man is always the better defensive scheme as long as you have the athletes to support it, I feel like zone is used almost like a crutch to cover up athletic deficiencies but I'm sure that's a very simplistic way of looking at it.

Yea man I don't know the answer to that. I'm simply a fan, nowhere near a coach lol. It's easy for me to sit back and bitch and moan about LSU's defensive strategy Saturday night but in all honesty, no way I could call the shots in real time like that. All I know is it was frustrating to watch play out the way it did when we did so well pressuring and continued to fall back 75% of the time.

Kewan Lacy got hurt. that helped their defense start getting stops in the third quarter. Otherwise it would have been uglier for little ole blake baker.

If you were to go back to read the game thread, there were a bunch of us wondering why we kept playing soft on 3rd down when we kept getting OM into 3rd and 5+. It just makes no sense whatsoever to have some success on 1st and 2nd down then continually play something different on 3rd down.

L$u doesn’t have the same quality DBs like past years.

So I found out why you wouldn't want to play Man all the time.
Defeating Rubs and Picks: Modern offenses use compressed and bunch formations to intentionally block man-to-man defenders. Zone avoids the clutter because defenders pass receivers off to the next zone instead of chasing them through a maze
At least that was one reason AI said

We started mixing up our looks more in the second half… showing something like two high pre-snap and then morphing into quarters or man post-snap.
When we ran man in the first half, Ole Miss was killing us with picks… I mean “rub” routes (lol, yes, everyone does them), so we were getting beat when showing and sticking with man defense.
So the combo of showing one thing pre-snap and doing something else post-snap while blitzing from various angles allowed us to throw Chambliss off a bit.
Chambliss is a good QB, though. You’re not going to shut him down forever. Ole Miss made some adjustments, and they battled. Ole Miss scored. LSU got the ball back and our QB couldn’t hit our open guys in the end zone. Game over.
Great game overall. Trinidad is the man

Is there a reason only the defense gets to make adjustments that worked for 1/8th or the game in your pretend scenario, but the offense doesn’t?

Not necessarily. Goldie and co plan for all that. They know what they've put on film and what the other team will be expecting and will add wrinkles every week.
And the MAIN thing is with a freak like TC, the other team can know EXACTLY what is coming next and Trinidad will just laugh and pull some kinda Mahomes voodoo. Some things just can't be defended, period. Like Burrow to Chase yesterday at the end zone pylon. There is zero defense against that.

I heard that LSU got ahold of a fake play sheet and caused confusion in the first half. Kiffin realized it and adjusted at the half.

The first half we played zone. We were afraid to give up the big play and wanted to try and contain.
3rd quarter we had to be aggressive because it didn't matter. Man on man with blitzing to get pressure on the quarterback.
Once tied, we went back to zone. Just remarkable coaching.

Not necessarily, but you did hit on the key.

Ole Miss came out flat and didn’t try. They beat the brakes off LSU 32-10 excluding that fluke 15 minutes

This is why a good quarterback will pick apart a pure soft zone. The receiver runs to a point between the zones and stops. Both DB's are looking at the other guy to cover that receiver and leaves that spot open temporarily.

No LSU fan understands why we ran so much soft zone. It was an awful gameplan that boggles the mind. It was setup to force Chambliss to pick apart the zone and that's exactly what happened. Worse than that, we tackled like crap, so it didn't even accomplish what it was supposed to (keeping everything in front of us).
