If you honestly believed that you wouldn't have felt the need to start this thread for reassurance.
But here's to hoping.

Maybe. Maybe he likes the college game. Maybe he likes recruiting over coaching someone else's picks. We don't know.
What stands out to me is how just EVERYONE assumes he can be easily poached. I saw a list of "top ten candidates for Michigan job" and he was three. Dumb MFers couldn't afford his buyout with their rust belt money, but they just assume that he is easy pickings because we are A&M.
Why doesn't Briles at Baylor get the same discussion? Why isn't Gus leaving for the NFL this offseason? His buyout is lower!
The answer is that this kind of talk is a measurement of level of threat. People want your coach gone when you are a threat. Just like those Texas boys who make rumors of "this is the year Stoops goes to the NFL!" for a decade.

What is Sumlin's buyout?
Posted on 9/30/14 at 1:08 pm to HempHead
$5 million if he is taken from us prior to the end of the 2016 season.
But we would match any offer any college team will throw at him. That is how he is making $5 million a year- we outbid USCw.

I understand there's a good chance he will leave for the NFL at some point if we keep winning, but I will say that I think he only does it if he gets full personnel control
Seeing how involved he is with recruiting and building his roster you can tell he takes that part of the game very seriously. Also Chip Kelly got it, so there is precedent for it.

They also assume we wouldn't raise his salary. We aren't going to risk a 500 million dollar renovation over like 1 mil a year lol

Nope.
I just enjoy watching the rant get their jimmies rustled.
over the last few years the cycle has followed this pattern:
1 - LOL you got a CUSA coach you're going to get wrecked in the SEC
2 - Sumlin is getting noticed and will be taking a job elsewhere
3 - Sumlin/JFF will be figured out and shut down in year 2
4 - Sumlin is going to leave for the NFL after JFF declares
5 - Sumlin will be exposed as a fraud when JFF leaves.
6 - Sumlin headed to NFL/other job
the RANT can't decide if Sumlin is a bust or the next NFL head coach

KDS is where he wants to be.
LSU fans are simply in denial.
There's a far better chance of Leslie to Michigan rather than KDS to the NFL, sans maaaaaayyybe the Cowboys.

For a buyout it is a lot.
Then someone like Michigan would have to pay their coach whatever that buyout is. Then you have to pay Sumlin over $7 million a year to be worth his time to move. We would match that, so you would have to go to $10 million a year to MAYBE beat us.
So the total cost of Sumlin is somewhere around $20 million for the first year. Some place like Michigan can't afford that, and few NFL teams could.

A&M is my favorite team after LSU. I vividly remember the classic arse whippings we took from yall in the 80s, and were my first choice to join SEC over VagTech way back when it was just discussion. The tradition, legacy and rabid fan base always reminded me of LSU, and just screamed that yall were an SEC team.
I really hope Sumlin stays and makes his dynasty in College Station for a long, long time. The NFL ain't all that. Hell, I quit watching after Saints finally won SB.
College football, especially in the SEC, IS ALL THAT.
A&M with a winning program is good for all, so grab the bbc with both hands, Aggies.
Seriously.

Bert skeered him.
In all honesty, 10 years is a long time for any coach to be in one spot anymore.
Either they move on to greener pastures, a new challenge, get fired for not meeting expectations or scandal.
If I were to put money on it, I'd bet Sumlin won't be there in 10 years.

The fact that you think a team paying 5 million dollars to get sumlin out of his contract and then has to negotiate a salary of like 7 or 8 million dollars to get him to realistically be interested in their job is not a lot of money

No its not. The only reason Paul Johnson is still at GT is bec of his buyout...it was over 8M last year. It is 5M this year adn they cannot afford to get rid of him.
Coach Booms is 7M, Ferentz at Iowa is 11M.

Good stuff.
Thanks for that.
I don't have a clue where Coach Sumlin will be in 10 years.
I'm just enjoying the present.
It's all any of us can--and should--do.
