Longest CURRENT droughts without a Top 10 finish among these elite programs:

quote:

7 years- Texas

hasn't been in top 10 since losing to Bama in national title game

quote:

5 years- LSU

hasn't been in top 10 since losing to Bama in national title game

quote:

4 years- Notre Dame

hasn't been in top 10 since losing to Bama in national title game

I see a pattern.

Longest Drought of Top 10 Finishes Since 1960 by stat19

Isn't LSU in the midst of a another top 10 drought? When was their last top 10 - finish?

2012 - #2
We came close in 2013 and 2016.

And between 2001 and 2011- LSU had 7 Top Ten finishes (5 of those were Top Five.)

The 1990s was the only losing decade in LSU history (54-58).
But after that decade and just PRIOR to the year 2000, LSU STILL was #12 All-time in number of NCAA victories, and #9 in bowl appearances. (We are now #11 and #8, respectively.)

They always play off their current situation by referencing Alabama's 'dark ages' of the early 00s, equating the two. It isn't even close, the shitshow that has become the UT Volololols

No, not close.

However, Bama's bad years really went from about 1995-2007. But the 1999 team won the SEC Title and finished #8. Then in 2005, Bama had another pretty good season in the middle of the Shula era. They ended the year ranked #8.

Outside of that, it was pretty bleak for about 13 seasons.

Also had a good year in 2002 (10-3) with Fran and solid years in 1995 (8-3) and 1996 (10-3)

Our bad era had a very distinctive pattern of losing season, 6/7 win season, 10 win season and back around.

1997 : 4-7
1998 : 7-5
1999 : 10-3

2000 : 3-8
2001 : 7-5
2002 : 10-3

2003 : 4-9
2004 : 6-6
2005 : 10-2

2006 : 6-7
2007 : 7-6
2008 : 12-2

I predict Nebraska will end up owning the longest streak.

Maybe so. I think they really screwed up when they left for the Big 10. They used to recruit Texas hard and up until 12-13 years ago could get ANY kid they wanted anywhere they wanted. Kids from Texas were not willing to go that far north just to be on TV anymore....besides with the expansion of ESPN and the Fox regionals they did not have to

That's a long note to post for a troll at UT. There is a lot more low-hanging fruit if you want to go that route (for starters, see Butch's 5Heart garbage). You get an upvote but a warning comes with it.

Yeah, Nebraska is in a tailspin they may never recover from. The Big 8 was the kingdom of OU vs NU and when that went away to become the Big XII those two lost a lot of prestige. Oklahoma recovered some but Nebraska never has and might not ever. It's sad to say, but one of the blue bloods is on life support and is probably ready to flatline.

What about Ole Miss? I'm pretty sure they haven't darkened any legitimate Top Ten poll since 1963!

That was a pretty rough stretch. Very tough on all of us.

May as well include us too. I don't count 2012 because the offense still sucked balls.

Nebraska was fricked when Texas joined the Big 12. No more county scholarships and no more partial qualifiers.

The best part is Tennessee's last top 10 team ended up in the Citrus Bowl.
