I'm a women's gymnastics fan. I can remember watching UGA during the Yoculon era. I don't mean to be sexist, but watching those bubble butt midgets was outstanding.

Favorite event:
Uneven parallel bars. Strength and agility.
Beam. "I can't believe that there are no concussions". It's dangerous.
Floor. Needs more flips and less rolling around.
Vault. Do something different.

I'm curious, why you would have to eliminate WBB to have a gymnastics program. UGA has all of that and Title XI is not an issue.

Dump softball. Money loser.

A&M just built one of the nicest softball stadiums you can imagine. It would put half of the NCAA baseball stadiums to shame. They just need to move on from the coach that's been with them forever and actually want to compete for national championships.

I honestly don’t know.
It’s a great question.

I think the only team that’s ever had gymnastics in a conference in which we’ve been affiliated is Nebraska.
I could be wrong.

100% of the Gymnastics Programs in the SEC and in the Pac12, where the Sport is supposed to be very popular operate at a deficit

That's probably due to the fact there are so few home meets. I know Arkansas only has 5 this season.

The OP suggested it. simply adding the sport would cost a ton of money and typically would be several years of terribleness. Being the first major Texas university would certainly give A&M a better than normal shot to start out competitive, but most sports don't make money, and most schools are greedy bastards.

also its "IX" not "XI" gawd.

Mrs. 19 was a gymnast and we watch women's SEC meets whenever we can.

Tiffany Thomas is a damn beast.

Yeah, women's bb is crap.

We should just add gymnastics and men’s soccer, hockey, or lacrosse

A&M would go straight to the top within a few years. I don’t know what idiot said Texas is not a hotbed for young gymnasts, but it most certainly is. Crazy that the Big 12 doesn’t have it.

Given our proximity to Houston, it's borderline criminal that A&M doesn't have a gymnastics program.

I think it is cool to see Women look up to women's sports.

At MSU and SC WBB is big. At ALabama, Auburn, LSU, and Florida Gymnastics is huge rn.

Did not know WSOC had a great atmosphere but the games at MSU have been fun

I have been to quite a few MSU softball games and enjoy our new stadium but certainly others have better ones as well

Not to veer too far off subject here... My understanding is that it's the NCAA that requires equal number of male and female scholarships, not the law itself. It certainly doesn't read as tho it specifically requires that. Is that correct? If so, all this could be fixed by just eliminating football from that calculation since there is no female equivalent. I really don't think anybody would care either, it's not like the women's coaches are anti-football. They know it pays the bills.

Just seems like an easy fix that nobody wants to execute, unless I'm totally misunderstanding.

The NCAA requires you to offer a certain number of sports in order to be Division I. That's it. With football in play, nothing in the NCAA rules requires you to have an equal number of scholarships.

You are right to point out that the text of Title IX does not require equal scholarship numbers, or equal money, just equal opportunity. This is where the administrative state comes into play, because way back (I think in the 80s) the department of Education issued a "guidance" letter that suggested schools were not in compliance with Title IX unless they did certain things (most notably, provided an equal number of participation opportunities). There has been some litigation since then, but the rules on what it takes to comply with Title IX aren't written in stone. A committed administration could issue new guidance with more realistic guidelines, but would the left wingers who run college campuses follow that? Probably not.

It probably has more to do with education and revenue than title IX.

People will drive into a small town like Bryan for a big CFB game or maybe a baseball/basketball game, but gymnastics would require a large amount education in the area, not to mention new hires for training staffs, coaches, equipment, etc., and it might not (probably won’t) pay off immediately.

If you’re a president/board/AD, do you take money from other revenue sources and throw it at an unknown commodity, or just keep racking in donor support and upgrading the big boys? Don’t see this changing anytime soon unless someone at A&M gets bored or UT does it and A&M wants to keep up.
