LONG question re: SEC women’s sports (move along if you’re looking to be a jackass)

I really enjoy women’s gymnastics.
Texas A&M offers gymnastics as a club sport, but not as an NCAA-sponsored activity.
The same is true of all Texas universities: Texas is a US hotbed for gymnastics but doesn't offer the D-I sport in college. Experts predict championships if that changes. - DallasNews.com
Because Texas A&M offers volleyball, tennis, golf, women’s swimming, diving, soccer, track and field, equestrian, softball, and hoops, we don’t have enough scholarships available for more women in other sports.
So here’s my question: Would getting rid of women’s hoops drastically hurt us as a university?
Gary Blair’s WBB team has won a national championship more recently than most other A&M teams, so it’d be a controversial move (to say nothing of the fact that Aggie Vic Schaefer has made it excruciatingly clear that he wants to come home to Aggieland when Blair retires).
But WBB is the singular women’s sport that’s painful for most to watch.
Our women’s soccer atmosphere is comparable to UNC’s, and the ladies are awesome.
Softball isn’t going anywhere.
And equestrian is successful as heck.
Would you be willing to share your thoughts on the subject?

Madison Kocian would've loved to keep a family in-state college tradition, but she'd long known it likely wouldn't be possible.
The 2016 U.S. Olympic gymnast and Dallas native had several relatives on her dad's side attend the University of Texas. Many on her mom's side went to Texas A&M.
Kocian is now in her junior season at UCLA.
Her experience in Los Angeles includes a 2018 team national championship and five event All-America honors. Kocian wouldn't change her decision to compete for the illustrious gymnastics program.
But she's wondered what would've happened if she had the option to compete in college gymnastics in her home state.

"You can ask every Texas athlete out there that's going to another school right now: Would they have stayed home in Texas? And I think 90 percent of them would've said yes," Lane said. "Once you have one school to add [gymnastics] in Texas that's Division I, it's going to be such a fight for those kids that want to stay."
quote:
In the last four Olympic cycles, four women's gymnastics team members lived or trained in Texas. Three of the last four Olympic all-around champions -- Simone Biles (2016), Nastia Liukin (2008) and Carly Patterson (2004) -- are from Texas.
Because Texas A&M offers volleyball, tennis, golf, women’s swimming, diving, soccer, track and field, equestrian, softball, and hoops, we don’t have enough scholarships available for more women in other sports.
quote:
Title IX requires that women and men be provided equitable opportunities to participate in sports. Title IX does not require institutions to offer identical sports but an equal opportunity to play
Scholarships: Title IX requires that female and male student-athletes receive athletics scholarship dollars proportional to their participation
So here’s my question: Would getting rid of women’s hoops drastically hurt us as a university?

I would say as far as getting male eyeballs on the sport....a majority will only even consider watching softball, basketball and volleyball.
Even the its tough, but IMO those seem to be the 3 that are mostly agreed upon as the most watchable for guys. So if youre looking to be financially viable those are the 3 you stick with.

Swimming and diving are 1 sport, baw. You've finished top 10 13 of the last 14 years. It's literally one of your best teams.

Gymnastics has the 2nd most average attendance at UF behind football. It is a great Friday night activity for the family.
Away meets are on SECn or SECn+

Just because some Eastern Euro defector set up shop in Houston to train and illegally dope up girls to keep them looking like 11 year olds (less hips, less breasts) to help them compete for Medals doesn't make Texas a hotbed for Gymnastics, many of those Gymnasts are from out of State and are drawn to the shady Eastern Euro coach-shady doping methods moreso than Texas organically growing more elite Gymnasts
Has anyone researched what chemicals they give those Gymnasts to have them at age 18-19 with bodies that look like 11 year olds and then when they stop competing Internationally, they transform into normal "stacked azz" women in less than 6 months
Folks oughta have more outrage over that, than Booker's comments

Gymnastics is a big deal in the SEC - it attracts a different demographic and is really good for the schools, IMHO. I'm not sure it would be good to get rid of women's basketball for it, but it is a really, really great thing in this league.
I personally don't "love it" (I want them to do well, I just am not personally attracted to the sport), but there are a whole lot of older women and little girls who like Alabama gymnastics more than any sport on campus. Softball has become about like that, too.

A&M should definitely get gymnastics, they would be contenders right away with that talent base. No one has equestrian except A&M.
Need more uniformity for minor sports across SEC landscape.
Vandy doesn't have softball.

You Aggies should drop that equestrian BS and go with gymnastics.

My thoughts too.
Thanks for sharing yours.
We’re going to need to figure out some way to make it work; the writing’s on the wall.

Well as was mentioned above. equestrian doesn’t offer scholarships?
So that’s a moot point.

I enjoy watching MSU WBB but we are a top 10 program currently.
Hump was packed and loud for the game against A&M yesterday

SEC Network can't get out of their own way sometimes.
Four hours of Finebaum is a joke year round when he never really talks about the other sports other than football.
I bet the SEC office could produce better content than ESPN for the SEC Network

How many of those seats are fully paid attendance or are they Comps?
If the avg attendance is 2nd at U of F behind only FB, then how does Gymnastics lose money every yr at UF, something ain't adding up
A lot of SEC Schools will invite youth Gymnastics Clubs to their meets at huge discounts or Comped just to have a good crowd for TV and create the illusion that's there's a huge following for college Gymnastics
100% of the Gymnastics Programs in the SEC and in the Pac12, where the Sport is supposed to be very popular operate at a deficit
Something ain't adding up money wise
